I have noticed that in one of the new 08 couses that I have played where the designer used a custom water texture, the reflections do not show up and the overall quality of the water is not great. I realize that last year the custom water textures were a good work around from what the stock water looked like in the customs then. My question than is, wouldnt it be better this year if the designers just stuck with the stock water textures? |

um, there were no custom water textures last year...
There were stock ponds and stock oceans. The stock oceans looked decent while the stock ponds looked bad. This year, the ponds look good again. |

Um, yet once again it appears I was not making myself clear. I was talking about the water work arounds that some of the designers used in their courses last year rather than using the stock water textures that did not render well in the game. |

hey eagls628 how goes it? Quietly is right in his answer to you.
What we did last year was use a stock pond water texture and a stock ocean water texture and together they made the work around...
Hope this helps... And yes I agree, the stocks seem to work perfectly by themselves this year..

Hi axe. The course that I was referring to is the Mighty Mississippi Golf Club 08, that uses a custom water texture from 06. IMO, it does not look good on that course. That lead me to the question that I asked which was if the designers thought that maybe they should just stick with the 08 stock water textures this year since they look good plus they render reflections again. |

I have noticed that if you play an 08 course in 07 all the textures render perfectly, ecept for the water of course. That goes for trees and stuff as well. This means that people who have 07 installed can actually play the 08 custom courses, I believe, as long as they have all the required libs installed. This pic is from my Major Thrivens course as seen in 07. Structures look better, water looks flat as always, so theres a trade-off: Which do you prefer, reflecting water or structures that dont look like black blobs in the landscape? |

No old stock libraries should be used at all in my opinion... just 08. 08 stocks are really nice textures this year.
Any 07 courses using the water work around do not look do hot this year. Any courses prior look good...

What you can do is use the stock textures in 08 and then play the game in 07 so that 3D structures render alright. Its either that or reflecting water this year. Stock 08 stuff looks a bit bright in 07, but I can live with it. |
