My copy of TW2008 arrived today, but it wont install. When I insert the disc, nothing happens and the drive appears to be empty. I play 2007 in the dwnld version, but I have noticed the same problem when I tried to install that from disc. I ignored it then because I figured maybe the dwnld version was blocking it somehow. But apparently its another issue. Other cds work just fine. Has anybody else ever had this problem with EA discs? |

Well, I just call them all cds. But yes, it is a dvd drive. Its only the two EA discs that are giving me problems as far as i can tell. |

I got it installed, but I could have saved myself the trouble. I dont really see what this game has to offer thats new or exciting. There are some new courses, and the old ones look slightly better than in the previous version (as always) but theres no more Course Utilities program, so you cant install custom courses anymore. It looks like this is the end of the CA, as we all feared. Thank you very much EA, for another superfluous addition to a game thats been going downhill ever since they changed the name from PGA to Tiger Woods as far as Im concerned. Not that they care any. |

OK got it. I tried a couple of my own custom courses and the trees definitely look better, but the water issue is still unresolved. It seems to reflect in some weird way this time,. but theres no rippling, as far as I can see. 3D structures appear to render worse than in 07 also, but maybe thats just something you have to get used to, lol. If they are indeed working on a new CA for this one, it would be great, but I wouldnt hold my breath. |

Nice to see that they got the reflections working again. It still looks like the same light blue lifeless looking non transparent water though, no? |

Indeed. There are some problems wih the rendering of 3D structures though. Heres an example, using just TW08 textures and objects. They look excellent. . For a number of buildings the reflections show fine, but the actual objects are just black blobs without any definition in the texture. Maybe thll look better from close-up, but I only dud the one hole and I wasnt able to move the cam far enough. |

Yes Jimi...other players/designers reported same problems...black structures.... I tried some TW07 custom courses in TW08 game and noticed same problem. |

The wiweird thing is that some structures render just fine, as you can see in the pic. I wonder if it has anything to do with the poly count? On one custom course I played I noticed that the tee0markers, which were identical all over the course, sometimes showed up black while at other holes you could see them just fine. The problem may be that the game designers stopped using seoarate structures I believe. As far as I can tell on the TW07 and TW08 stock courses the structures seem to be wired into the mesh of the course somehow. |

I believe it has to do with the distance of the structures in the game. Closer up the structures from my previous pic render a bit dark, but you can still see the textures. |

When I move in with the cam you can see that the farthest structure seems to be just on the edge of whats visible. That would be like maybe 300 yards away. |

Every new installment of the CA seems to have its own peculirities, lol. Heres another strange thing: a bush that looks like a white square from one side and perfectly normal from the other. I have used only 08 textures and objects on this one. |

I am having a bit of a dilemma with TW08 design. The texture graphics on the stock courses look great, even on a custom course. But I am very unhappy with the way 3D structures are being rendered. I spend a lot of time on these things in order to make interesting libraries, but if half my work is only going to show up as a black surface on my screen, it doesnt seem worth the effort. So I may upload the occasional course with the strict advice to play it in TW07 only until the structures prblm has been fixed. Look at this pretyy little medieval village. It would be a shame if you could clearly see only the odd part here and there. |
