Its a sad thing that great men and women are sometimes forgotten by history. Take the Egyptian pharaoh Hotsypuss, who was the first woman who ruled the land of the Nile. Her reign was long before Hatshepsut and Cleopatra, the only female pharaohs that history has deemed fit to remember. Hotsypuss ruled Egypt even before the great Khufru, better known as Cheops, builder of the famous pyramids. It is only recently that Bastetopolis, the town that she built as her residence, was discovered in the middle of the desert, some 200 miles south-west of Cairo. Egyptologists were amazed to discover this forgotten part of Egyptian history. It turned out the Hotsypuss, just like the pharaoh Akhnaton long after, had presided over a religious revolution. She had discarded most of the Egyptian pantheon and required of her subjects that they worship only Bastet, goddess of cats, of which she was apparently especially fond. Unfortunately most Egyptians didnt have as strong a bond to the pussy goddess as their ruler, so after her somewhat suspicious demise in 2983 BC they swiftly returned to their old ways. As was the custom in these cases, the priests of the rehabilitated gods proceeded to erase the memory of Hotsypuss from their records and archives. With considerable success, for if Bastetoplois hadnt been found by pure accident and good luck, we still wouldnt know anything about her. The golf course at the site has been built over a similar affair which the ancient Egyptians used for the game of Kho-luf, which was somewhat similar to golf, as far as historians have been able to discern. |

Looking good Jimi. Cant wait to take a little stroll around this one. What I like about what you are doing is you are showing us the great objects you have made and at the same time giving us a great course to play. Cool objects and a great corse to boot, what more could we ask? Thank you Bud. |

Thanks Eagls. I try to make a pleasant course first, but this being cyber golf I get bored quickly with rendering fantasy courses that look only like imitations of real courses. This course is being hand-sprinkled only twice a week by a legion of out-of-work pyramid builders to retain that true desert feel. In real life that would be cost-ineffective, lol. After my adventures on Tatooine I felt like trying my hand at a real Terran desert course, and what better setting for that than ancient Egypt? Not to mention that I already had some nice Middle-Eastern looking structures in my Mos Eisley library. So this is what I came up with. I hope it will be a bit easier to download than my recent efforts, lol. |

The archeological site on which the golf course with the rather appealing name of Bastets Kitten is located, is really quite impressive. Although queen Hotsypuss was one of the earlier pharaos of the First Dynasty, she had already developed a taste for large things, as was evidenced, according to certain gossipy graffiti that were found scribbled on some of the walls on the site, by her affection for her grand-vizier, Gha-ro te Pikh, who was by all accounts not the smartest man who ever lived, but who apparently made up for his mental deficiencies with certain parts of his physique that were especially appealing to the queen. Hotsypuss pyramid was the largest building ever constructed in Egypt until that time, with the tomb of her lover Gha-ro te Pikh, who preceded his beloved queen in death, as a close second. The site is littered with temples dedicated to Hotsypussfavorite goddess, Bastet, which earned the queen her nickname of Bastets Kitten. Hence also the name of the course, which offers all the whims one might expect of an old fashioned female despot: gentle and easy going one minute, cruel and ruthless the next. |
