I have found on certain courses, such as TPC of Boston, that a strange, grid like pattern appears on the fairway. As the ball moves, or during a fly by, the pattern stays the same distance but is still there. Does anyone have any idea what this effect is?

You can try to update your video card driver, or try to change some settings in game . Start TW game...options....graphics....
Maybe you can try to set option Atmospheric lighting to: Off
