When the European powers started scrambling for empire in the 18th century, the then head of state of Jimiland, Lord Cecil XII Blabbermouth, felt he couldnt be left behind. The main problem was that by the time he had convinced his subjects that this was good idea, most of the world had been carved up already by the great powers. Even the King of Belgium had managed to obtain his piece of the pie. One little spot on the globe remained, however: The tiny tropical island of Frederico Poo, actually the summit of an undersea mountain thats part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where East and West get pushed ever further apart due to relentless plate textonics. Frederico Poo, named after the intrepid Spanish seaferer who stumbled upon it in the 16th nectury, was at its time of discovery an unhabited little island, with a shallow harbour that could only be reached by navigating through intimidating reefs. The main wildlife consists of birds and bats, the island being out of reach to any land-dwelling animals but man himself. The main species was (and still is, due to aggressive conservation measures) the flightless Dada bird, originally an albatross-like creature that evolved some kiwi-like attributes after it gave up flight and fish and started to live on the nuts and berries that the island provides in abundance. It being small and and insignificant in every conceivable way, Frederico Poo proved totally unattractive to the other colonizing powers, which offered Cecil the opportunity to grab it on behalf of Jimiland. Although his new empire could hardly be called impressive by any means, his new possesion nevertheless soon went somewhat to poor Cecils head. After a little harbour town was erected and the island became a minor stopping point for certain Trans-Atlantic vessels with dubious credentials, Cecil built a rather impressive mansion, looming perilously over the North Cliff of the island. Here he spent much of his time brooding on plans of world domination which fortunately never went beyond the imagining stage. Cecils eccentricities proved so costly to the nation that both Jimiland and its tiny colony sank from near into total oblivion for well over a century. It only recently started its rise back from obscurity, due to the golf craze that has gripped the land in the past few years and that has proved quite profitable. The inhabitants of Frederico Poo, now a full blown province of Jimiland, soon felt they couldnt be left behind. With some fiscal aid from their fellow countrymen on the mainland they built their own course, which now occupies almost half of their island. The new Frederico Poo Golf Experience has some qualities that set in apart from most other golf courses, the main one being the ubiquitous dada birds. Being quite intelligent, some of them have been trained by the staff of the golf course to retrieve golf bals in the dense rough that covers much of the course. Their presence alone has already drawn dozens of tourists to the island who braved the long sea journey from the Canary Islands on one of the tiny ships that are the only means of transport to and from Frederico Poo. They have not been disappointed, because even without the dada birds the course offers exactly what it promises: a true Golf Experience. So have fun all!!! |

The layout of the Frederico Poo Golf Experience is not exactly traditional or orthodox |
