So, I'm tryimg something new: Mauna Lani. It has 2 courses (South and North). North is considered the better and tougher course, but the South (the one I'm trying to do right now) has one of the most photographed holes in golf.

The South is very short so I've had to make it a little longer to make it playable for the game. Along the first hole their are a number of resort houses that have sauna/pools backing onto the course. I made them and had an epiphany while doing it. I made the pool objects with a 'pond' texture so the pool objects automatically have reflective water as soon as they're dropped on the plot. Wish I'd thought of this sooner. no more fussing with a bunch of pond textures on the plot.

Aloha! That should warm us up. Dang it is cold. I thought you had a fantasy course going?

Yah I had one in the works but it took a lot of effort to make all the objects for that course and I kinda burned out a little on the project so I moved on. I'll go back at some point I hope.

I looked around and felt like most of the PGA Tour stops had been covered. I came across Mauna Lani, which hosted the Senior PGA skins event 1990-2000. It looked visually interesting although it will be probably be the easiest course to play of all the ones I've made. It looks like a true vacation resort course. It's meant for 'weekend' golfers, so some nice frills, but ultimately short and easy.

The 15th looks quite fun:

15th Hole

I also liked the way they used volcanic rock throughout the course:

2nd Hole

slowly but surely... 3rd tee area was really complicated but I think I did a decent replication of it. 4 holes done so far.

A funny thing happened on the way to finishing Mauna Lani. I got bogged down working on it so I started a little side project and was briefly bouncing back and forth between them before focusing on the side project, which is now complete first.

I had 3 goals for the side project:

1. I wanted to try making an interesting course using only holes from the course wizard. (Pretty sure Jimi did this years ago) Those template holes are for the most part pretty mundane, so I thought it would be fun to try to make them more interesting through creative topography, plantings, and setting.

2. I wanted to revisit the idea of placing a course inside a city center (which I first attempted on Downtown at Sylven Glen GC). That course was a small par 3 course because I was concerned about the number of structures needed but I went ahead this time and made an 18 hole full length course set in a fictionalized Central Park in New York.

3. I wanted to revisit the fall setting with the fallen leaves and such first seen on Laurentian Hills in Autumn. On top of the fallen leaves dispersed throughout the course, I added some floating leaves on some of the ponds as well.

While I didn''t try to completely recreate all the details of Central Park, The north and south ends were both meant to be similar to the real park. Specifically, the south end with the large imposing buildings where the course starts and ends is pretty accurate as far as those buildings as well as the pond, bridge, and area around 18. (although the green site is actually a densely wooded area)

The 16th which is at the north end, also includes a pond fairly accurate to the real park. Obviously, there is no train bridge in the real park, I added that for fun.

The course will be uploaded shortly, and then it''s back to Mauna Lani .

Mauna Lani South Course has been uploaded. It may be my last. My old computer kicked the bucket so I no longer have a computer capable of compiling new courses.

Would have preferred to go out on a better course. This one looks fairly nice but isn't very challenging.

Enjoy!
