I dabbled in course design years ago. but never finished a full course for upload. I understand the time and effort it takes to put together a pretty and playable course, so kudos to the designers who are keeping the art alive today. I can't thank you enough for keeping this nearly ten year old game still interesting.
I found an old hard drive from a dead computer and it has a couple of my course designs on it with all the VM setup. I would love to get back into designing if I can get the virtual setup on my Win8.1 machine. I've tried downloading "Virtual Box' but my computer "couldn't verify publisher" or something during download and when I try to use the app it says "my PC can't open this app" no matter what compatibility I try.
Can anyone help me get the proper virtual setup for Win8.1? |

Hey thanks a lot gunpower for responding so quickly. I've seen a few vids on the subject and can't accomplish it the same way it shows. I have a Dell and I guess the way it's setup is not the same. It won't allow me to download properly or run any new (old) programs...it's a mess. Tech companies obviously spend a lot of time and money on making anything 3 years or older obsolete. I have tried to lower security on internet options to allow downloads and opening of "dangerous" files to no avail.
I will watch the vids again, but I can't spend much more time on this setup or my wife will be filing for divorce. |

I have VMware Workstation 12 Player set up as a virtual machine on my Windows 10 PC. I had the old disk for Windows XP and installed it quite easily on the virtual machine, then it was just a question of installing all the relevant Course Architect material. For security reasons I do not let my virtual machine connect directly to the Internet, if I need anything downloading I use Windows 10 and then transfer it to the virtual machine. |

After a bit more tweaking of web options and placing a lot of these download sites in "trusted sites", I'm up and running with Virtual Box, course utilities and architect seem to be working (have not spent much time in it). Long and involved process but hope it will be worth it.
I have forgotten how to use all these programs, so even though I found old course designs on my old hard drive, I realize now that the .tca files are still on XP in that other VM, probably not accessible. I did find 2 .tca files in a shared folder and will see what they are when I have time.
You guys are awesome with the replies and the help. You will see a little something in the shoutbox for sure!! |
