Using the Architect in XP mode (Windows 7) I am getting an out of memory error. XP mode is allocated 512mb of 3076mb max as displayed in settings. This is the default figures set by the OS. The memory available in my system is 16GB so I want to increase the memory in XP mode to 1024mb. However, by following the procedures as instructed:
Start - All programs - Windows Virtual PC I open Windows Virtual PC I right click Windows XP mode and go into settings
Memory is dispaled at 512mb and in the right hand box I should have the ability of changing this. However this box is greyed out preventing any changes. See below.
Can someone advise how I get around this problem please? |

The way we are playing here you might want to throw the clubs in the lake. If you throw the clubs in the lake, you might miss the lake.

Hello Lawrence,
The problem is that Virtual Machine is running, you can t change the memory when Virtual machine is running. That is why it is greyed out. In the pic you attached you will see there is a warning your Virtual machine must be shut down first. I am not sure, but when virtual machine is shut down go to: This computer ( or My computer ) there you should see Virtual Machine. Right click on it and choose: settings Inside you should find the memory tab where you can change it ( be sure Virtual machine is not running ) |

I found a good link, there is also explained how to change the memory. It is explained in step 4, but also read the steps before step 4:

I finally got it fixed. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Pat, the system was hibernated & not closed. To be honest the guidance out there is somewhat confusing insomuch as it assumed the system was closed and not hibernated. I increased the memory to 2048mb and everything works fine now. My system memory is 16GB. :D |
