A course designer wants to update a few old courses, but wants to give it a new guid number, so that members can install both versions ( old and new ) in TW08. The problem now is that the old version must be uninstalled before he can install the new updated version.
I think it works this way, but i am not sure, so when a course designer knows how to do it reply to my post please:
Open the course architect file and on top go to: File.....Course properties Now give the course a new name....and click ok After that go to: File.....and choose: Save as Give the course architect file a new name.....and click: Save When you now open the new saved course architect file and you compile your course, then the course should have a new guid number. Now it should be possible to install the new compiled course in TW08 without uninstalling the old version. |

I am having no luck changing the guide number on any of the courses I've tried. I have done it before accidently but don't know how. I tried both methods above and I am not understanding something. |

copy the original coursename.tca file into a new folder, although it should work from the original folder location
open coursename.tca in the CA from the new folder save as: coursename1.tca
open course properties - it will have the original name there change the name to something else copy/paste the same changed/new name into the course description section below the name section (not always necessary, but have always done it and never had guid change issues)
save (should still say: coursename1.tca in the saved folder)
compile - should result in coursename1.tcr -------------------------------------------------- i''ve heard of some glitches, changing CourseName2013 to CourseName2014 doesn''t do anything, so might have to try 2014 CourseName instead - slight variation needed at times |

Hi Rob, how are you my friend? Just guessing, but could it just be a Windows 7 problem (I presume that you are using Windows 7)? Have you tried doing it in Windows XP? |

should work as described win7 / XP doesn''t matter (except you don''t see pano with W7 compile etc etc LOL)
open CA open oldname.tca file save as: a newname.tca close CA
open CA open newname.tca open course properties - it will show oldname - change oldname to newname - in BOTH the name section and description sections save close CA
open CA open newname.tca compile
in registry should be a different GUID in game should be new name showing when loading, on scorecard etc both oldname and newname versions should be able to be installed at the same time |

JB, I have tried your step by step to change the guid on most all the courses I have updated and you know I can't make it work. I wonder if I sent you a tca and see if you can change one .... then I would know if it's me not smart enough to figure it. .....Rob |

Hello Rob, I managed to change the name and guid nr today on the course architect file you have send me. ( I will send you the renamed CA file, but you can try it yourself when you want ) I followed the steps JBCalg described First i had the same problem you described, i could change the coursename, but not the guid nr. But i think i found the problem, the course architect file ( tca )name is very long. In the first step you have to rename the TCA file, but when you only change the last characters, then the Course architect will not see it as another course and will keep the Guid nr. You course architect file has 26 characters ( spaces included ), and the course architect probably can t read that much characters. So the option is to choose another name for the renamed course architect file, or to change the first part in the name. This is how it should work ( i added one paragraph to JBCalg his instructions )
should work as described win7 / XP doesn''''''''t matter (except you don''''''''t see pano with W7 compile etc etc LOL)
open CA open oldname.tca file save as: a newname.tca ( Important: Choose a complete new name, for example: Test3.tca ) close CA
open CA open newname.tca ( for example: Test3 ) open course properties - it will show oldname - change oldname to newname - in BOTH the name section and description sections Go to: File...save close CA
open CA open newname.tca compile
in registry should be a different GUID in game should be new name showing when loading, on scorecard etc both oldname and newname versions should be able to be installed at the same time |

good catch on the length of name !
others that had issues like that needed to change the name somewhere near beginning, so your observation makes sense |

I remember on win7 i had to run CA06 as administrator. The CA06.exe is in the bin folder C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Sports\Course Architect 06\Bin Right click CA06.exe icon....choose properties.....compatibility.....on bottom check box: Run as administrator....hit Apply But when you are using XP then you don t have to do this. |
