I'm running windows 8.1 and would like to run the game in compatibility for xp or vista but when I right click the shortcut exe in the game folder it doesn't give me that option, how could I do that? The game actually seems to be running fine except except my tempo is always fast or very fast and I keep mishitting balls terribly I never did when I had it installed on my windows 7 machine. Even dropping dpi to its lowest setting is not helping the issue so I believe it may be a compatibility thing or maybe someone here has a suggestion. Super frustrated as I just purchased the game because the site I downloaded off years back no longer exists and it's a totally different game now. |

Hi...
I don t think you have to do the compatibility thing when the game runs fine. The fast or very fast swing is easy to fix. Most people will have fast or very fast swing on win7 and win8. When you have fast or very fast swing you will lose distance. On win7 or Win8, try extra stiff shafts and you will have normal swing, and you will win distance. Also try Bridgestone B330-S golfball and you will win some distance. Start TW08, go to Gameface, and try settings below:
Nike CPR Extra Stiff Flex Shafts, King Cobra FP Irons, EA 1-Under Edition Wedges, King Cobra Speed LD F Driver, King Cobra Speed Pro Fairway Woods. The golfball i used: Bridgestone B330-S
When you still want to do the compatibility thing on Win8, follow steps below:
On desktop you should have TW08 program icon. This is how you can get the TW08 icon on your desktop: Go to the bin folder in TW08, see path below: C:\Program Files (;x86)\EA Sports\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\bin
Now inside the bin folder right click the TW08.exe icon, and in list choose: Copy to...and choose: Desktop Now you will have the Tw08 icon on your desktop.
1. On your desktop, right-click the TW08 icon and choose Properties.
2. When the Properties dialog box appears, click the Compatibility tab and then click the Run Compatibility Troubleshooter button.
In its robotic way, Windows 8 tries to guess what version of Windows your program needs, and then it applies the changes. If the program begins working, youre through.
If the program still has trouble, though, move to Step 3.
3. In the Compatibility Mode section, select the Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For check box and select XP from the drop-down list.
4.Click OK and then try running TW08 again to see whether it works better. (; It is possible you have to restart your PC before it works )
When you are using TWCaddie08 to install courses: On desktop right click the TWCaddie08 icon.....choose: Properties....compatibility...and check box: Run as administrator...and click: Apply
Option: When you don t have the icon on your desktop, you can also go to: C:\Program Files\CourseDownloads.com\TW Caddie 08 - Vista 64 And you can do the administrator thing on the TWCaddie08 icon you will find there.
Important note: When you do the compatibility thing, it is possible your system will say it will not work in compatibility mode, but just finish it and restart your PC and it will work !!!! |

No matter what I do the game will not show me the compatibility option under the properties, I think I've tried everything?
I ended up going back to my old crappy mouse and that mostly alleviated the problems. With the super stiff flex now I'm usually slightly slow tempo but I am getting added distance with the ball and shafts you suggested although generally I like a ball that sticks a little more (any suggestions as I never knew the equipment mattered much if it all, thought it was cosmetic). With my newer better mouse things are a little better with the new equipment but still far too many missed shots so I think I'll just stick with my old crumby one when playing TW08.
Thanks for your help as it was really helpful (how ironic)? Any other suggestions you might have to make the game more fun or would give me more insight would be great such as is there anyway to change my stats from all 75% as a professional?
Thanks again! |

"such as is there anyway to change my stats from all 75% as a professional? " |
pro players are set at 75% attribute - to balance the playing field online
mouse and equipment: suggest you look at experimenting with mouse speed in mouse options (via control panel) instead of just dpi settings that tends to be the base speed control, then the fancy mouse settings modify that
re shafts, i use King Cobra NS Pro S (S=stiff) which goes well with my mouse settings and style of swing (short back and forth motion - constant tempo/speed, approx 3-4 inches total length - the shorter the swing, the more control, a more even tempo IMO)
the bridgestone ball tends to be the longest, but you need to loft the clubs a lot to get a softer landing other golfballs have less distance (10 yrds or so), but land more softly generally and more spin too (so land above the hole there LOL) |

When you don t have the compatibility option, go to the bin folder of TW08 You can find the bin folder on path below: C:\Program Files (;x86)\EA Sports\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\bin
Inside the bin folder you will find the TW08 icon When you right click the TW08 icon in the bin folder, then you should have the compatibility option (; see earlier steps )
Also don t forget to do the confidence folder fix (; maybe you already did it ):
There is a bug in the TW08 game, all members should do this fix. When you played some courses you will see the loading times between holes are increasing, the game will become slower and slower. Do next steps to solve the problem:
1) On desktop you will see the folder My Documents. Open this folder. (; when you are using Vista or Win7: on desktop look for folder: User (;or username).....inside you will find My documents ) 2) Inside My documents look for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. Open this folder and then open the folder Career 3) Inside Career open the folder Players. Inside this folder, look for your playersname folder and open it. 4) Open the folder Confidence. 5) Inside you will find these files: Hole Type.tcn and Shot Type.tcn. delete both files. 6) Important step here! Restart the TW08 game and play 1 hole on any stock course, then close TW08 game. 7) Go back to same Confidence folder and you will see both files are regenerated: but now they are very small in size. Now right click the Hole Type.tcn file and choose Properties. Check the box next to Read Only and click OK. Now do the same thing for the Shot Type.tcn file. |
