The last few months with my XP computer has been a nightmare. After a major power failure the PC crashed and lost 3 new course files, one course was released Royal Birkdale. However with the lost TCA file it will never be worked on again. I had another course which was complete which was lost also. I still have an older TCA file and the completed course. Also did revisions on 4 or 5 courses. Not crying over this, was going to go an re-work a few. Ended up getting the hard drive reformatted and the computer working again. However lost the install codes for the game. That is not even the problem. The hard drive finally went bad and now can't even do a system re-install.
Any ideas? Have two PC's with Windows 7...
The XP machine will still work if it got a new hard drive, but have no install discs. The computer is a 2004 Sony VAIO desktop, the XP system was coded to the hard drive.
If the hard drive was not broken, could have cloned it. Now pretty much out of luck.
How can I use the CA program and compile course?
Just about completed my entire texmod project even did this guy from the Match-Play (these files I still have they are on another computer) |

Hiya Hyno..
This is how you can compile courses:
When you have the Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise version of Windows 7, you can use Windows virtual pc, and you dont have to install XP on your PC to compile courses When you have the Home version of Windows 7, you can t use virtual PC, you will have to compile your course on a system with XP, or you will have to install XP aswell on your PC.
When you can use virtual Pc: tw06 - Course Architect - clsetup06 - Library Crreator (;if needed) need to be installed on the Virtual PC also
Note: i will send you a personal message aswell |

It sounds as though you are going to have to purchase a copy of WIN 7, and as Gunpower said, do not get the home version. Also a good idea is to purchase a 2nd hard drive and use it strictly for back-up. If your OS crashes again, you will still have all your backed-up files. I personally have 2 PC's with 2 1TB HDD's in each, the back-up drive has saved me a lot of headaches. good luck with your install and we all wait for the new courses. TYVM ed |

I normally back up everything, have like 30 CD/DVDs of all my Tiger Woods stuff dating back to the 04 Game. Also have Libs, Texture Sets, Structure Files, and ect. Even have like 8 external hard drives, for theses courses for whatever reason never made a copy of them. Yea I had a bunch of TCAs with different names but no back-ups. Yea in my setup had 5 computers now I am down to just 2.
Anyway so I need a computer with XP. Just going to have to purchase a new computer and wipe the drive and get a copy of XP. I dont mind XP, it is better than Vista & Windows 8.
What I am going to do first is freeze the XP hard drive and see if that will at least allow me to be able to access the system re-install. It sucks in a way cause I just re-built it. What happened was we had an ice storm and the power was cut, yea I have serge protectors. That machine never loaded again. Than I pulled the hard drive an slaved it, but it was blank. So I re-installed XP from the system restore and it worked perfect for about 1 month. Than one day it shut off and said I needed a boot disc. Now trying to do a system re-install it says missing files and cant do. Over the summer lost a Vista machine pretty much the same way, but saved all the data I needed from that machine. Hard drives dont last that is what I am finding out. |

I have an XP computer , but thinking of buying a new one with Win 7Pro , mainly to try out the new golf sim thats coming out, think i will need a kiss ass 2 gig Card for the game though.
If you need a compile in the mean time i can do it ,but would need to know all Libs used for the TCA file. In the past i have formatted XP with a Millenium boot up floopy disc then reinstall, that long ago now i forgot how to do it now.
I`am not building any more PC`s my self to much hassle and i can buy with 3 year warranty / delivered for about the same price and no running about , |

you don't need a new computer....just get a copy a copy of xp..set a separate partition on your windows 7 drive and dual boot using Easy BCD.
It can be a little tricky to get up running, but there are plenty of tutorials out there to help you and its free, if you have a copy of XP lying around. |

Just came to mind XP is no longer suported by MS, a new install of my XP Home Edition runs 30 days , then it has to be registered via a link or phone, to activate it, is it possible to get round this. |

Thanks for the input,
Just have too much stuff and use the windows 7 computers for other things that I don't have the space for this.
As far as XP support what I did when the hard drive first crashed got all the files that I would ever need for XP. Like service pack 2 and all the other updates. Put that on an external hard drive. If in the future anyone reading this needs those files I do have them. |
