I am currently a Windows Vista user and I am having an awful time trying to install course libraries. After reading these forums I get the feeling XP is the preferred OS for this game. Before I buy and change, does everyone agree?

Hi Greg,

XP: You can t buy a new system on Xp, Windows will stop support for XP next month.
Win7: TW08 works very good on Win7, also the TWCaddie08 installer works perfect on Win7, no problems here.
Win8: TW08 and TWCaddie08 also works on Win8, but you will have to run TW08 in compatibilty mode. The water reflection is not working very well for me on Win8.

Just my 2 cents, but when you want a system with the best results for TW08, then Win7 is the best option.
There are two versions of win7: win7 32bit....and Win7 64bit.
I prefer the Win7 64bit version.

Agree with Gunpower, Windows 7 is the way to go. You want to upgrade, not downgrade. ;;)

Hi Argon, I have no idea as I do not design courses. I was responding Greg and his request for opinions regarding the best OS to run TW and to install courses. TW runs perfectly on Windows 7, so if one already has Vista, they may as well upgrade instead of downgrading to XP.

What is the virtual machine and what am I missing? I have Windows 7 Premium and TW works perfectly, never had a single issue with the game or with installing courses.

Its so you can run some things in winxp mode.. With win7 premium you can't compile your courses.. So the VM lets you run in winxp mode, so you can.. ITs not for playing the game, it just helps designers, or anyone who has programs that only run in xp mode..

Just a quick summary:

When you just want to play TW08: Win7 home version.... will work perfect.

When you are a course designer, and you want to compile courses, you will need: the Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise version of Windows 7

I must apologize to the folks that said that TW08 runs perfectly on WIN7. It does not. I have a WIN7 64bit Home premium system. And for almost a year now I have not been able to get TW08 to run in LAN MODE OFFLINE(this is for practice in 75% attributs). Other than that TW08 runs great. My 3 XP machines do not have this problem. And yes I'v tryed the combatiblity mode. And yes UAC is off. And yes everything is run as administrator. Just my thought!!

Hiya Steve, yes i agree, must have something to do with Win7, since it works on other XP systems.

Dawg, lan mode is online play, connected to the net, so what is lan mod offline? Also, you do not need to be in lan mode to play a practice round.

You can set up a game in LAN but not go - online,i believe people use this method to test hitting yardages for playing Expert

might already be in use...dang computers...lol...lol Thanks

LAN mode can be played just the same as a custom game, for practice purposes, no need to go online via direct IP or hamachi/tunngle etc unless you want to

a PRO player (;as opposed to amateur) created is also limited to 75% attributes, but the distances may be off slightly form what you experience in LAN (;online or offline) mode

even with an amatuer player, you dont have to increase attributes past 75% but a Pro player is better for those purposes

Couldnt create game message - try a LAN game with a different name, with a different player (;even stock one)
try it with a Pro player created, not amateur
.... then close game and try again a few times

try actually going online via tunngle or hamachi and changing game name also, play a hole, see if that unglitches LAN mode

never heard of anyone with as many issues getting past that glitch LOL
