My Win7 Pro64 started a week ago or so to Lose Focus periodically. This happens both in the TW08 game AND in other programs. In TW08 I just had a game where "back to the desktop" happened 13x over 7 holes. I don't need to be touching the mouse or keyboard at all. In the game I haven't been able to tell if this is triggered by anything specific, or just what the time period is between events. Maybe every 2 minutes? The other thing that tells me it isn't just the game is that it ALSO happens when I'm just typing, as it just did on the word 'time'. Maybe after 2 minutes? Suddenly the box will give out an alert beep instead of registering the typed character. Like t-i-BEEP-(click)-m-e to be done with 'time'. I need to click back into the white space to type again. This is called Losing Focus. I'm pretty careful about allowing anything questionable onto my box, so the only current suspects are the latest MS W7 'updates' from the last few days conflicting with something that was running smoothly before.

I only ask here just in case someone else has tracked down a solution to a like problem.

Hello,
Not sure if this will help or not but you could check the connection on your graphic card that goes to your monitor and the monitor connection. Another thing to check is to see if your graphic card is still seated good. You will have to open your computer to do this. Also check and see if your graphic card driver is up to date.

It is also possibble your graphics card got overheated.
Most common reason for heating problems is dust, maybe you have to clean your system.
Warning: don t use a vacuum cleaner to clean your sustem inside, the static electricity on a vacuum cleaner can destroy your system.

Alert beeps from the PC, almost sure is signaling or warning of a hardware fault ,? Check power surply as well for cleaning.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I hadn't really suspected hardware. According to my Speccy program the Radeon is running at 97°F and I can tell you the whole box interior was thoroughly cleaned about a year ago in 13, and I only built this box in 9/12. But the GPU wasn't new then, just transferred from my last. When just typing this I got the burp and looked at my Sound CP to see what Win calls the burp sound. "Default beep", so that doesn't help. As for the GPU or my 530W PS getting unseated or otherwise disconnected I would expect much more serious problems. But maybe I'll open the box soon to check it out. I want to do that anyway for another home theater HDMI reason but I need to get a helper here for that. Here's what Speccy says about my GPU, I'll also try attaching the whole extensive Speccy output text:

Thanks, I've looked at this stuff before. I don't have Toggle or Sticky happening. Logitech tech had me pull and re-plug the USB, no use. But this has me thinking to try another tack. Unplug this USB and use my old PS2 kb, see if that makes it go away. But I do like this illuminated kb... :(

well gents, i ordered a new graphics card, needed a replacement for the 2010 vintage card anyway, and will do a thorough cleaning when installing it. i also have a new 200mm system fan to install at the same time. somehow i doubt it's the hardware though. if it doesn't fix i'll restore my system backup from November.

Thanks, bookmarked now, but I'm not so concerned with the beep sound, it's the underlying problem of losing focus. It's annoying when typing text (beeps then) or when scolling a window (no beep). But it's beyond annoying when playing TW with others who are waiting for your shot (or you to view theirs) to be able to move along in the game. Going back and forth to the desktop just about every hole is ridiculous. Btw, on my tray under the time and date there seems to be nothing relevant.

This symptom started after the latest Microsoft Win7 "updates" earlier this month, too many to narrow down a culprit. AND on Feb 14th I installed AVG 2014 Free. I'm uninstalling it now. Not necessarily causative but maybe more than coincidental.

YES, AVG, it seems. After uninstalling it the focus problem is gone in text and browsers, and I played a 9 hole game with only ONE back to desktop event instead of 1+ per hole. AVG Free was the only new install I did in the last couple of weeks that was running ALL the time. I should have guessed. It turns out this is an old and known problem.

And btw the link in there starting with [SOLVED] was a different problem for that one person with some other exe I dont have.
