I was hoping someone might be posting an updated version of Muirfield. Hynos' 2007 design is excellent, in fact, all of his are, with one significant drawback: all of his courses unexpectedly crash. I know that there have been discussions about how to bypass the problem, but, having tried them all, sometimes I get through a round without a crash, and the next time it will crash right away, on the green or in the fairway, on the first hole, the sixth, the seventh, the eighteenth, whatever.
The only permanent solution is a new version. Anyone up to the challenge? |

Really the old Muir 07 course crashes? Just got back in to this, that one never had a problem with. At this point in time, really never understood some of the problems people had with these courses. They really didnt have that much on them, however the structure count was sometimes high, each tee had signs posts, markers, benches, and that kind of junk. However, did do more shapes on a course than most, that count was always high, sometimes the planting could be out of control. Than used tons of weed rough. You would think in 2013 with these high-end video cards it could handle this stuff.
Anyway back to Muirfield, this course was created back in 05, it was early on in designing. Only updates ever done was re-doing bunkers. Always felt the 13th hole was terrible and not made well. (;That hole has been deleted). Making changes to #2 also had to blow up the 16th hole, but never liked that one anyway. Muirfield has good par 3s and I really messed them up.
Looking at it again, some of it was sloppy, unlike St. George’s which was at the end of my career and really tight. Felt like in places with fairway bunkers the landing zones were too tight. It is also one of my easiest courses to score well on. Really would like to revise this up. With the R&A changing up the course a bit want to update some of the new tees and extra bunkers. Still don’t have a club house for this course. What I have done so far was fixed up some of the landing zones, cleaned up some of the slop, and added some cool rough lines and shaping around the outsides of the course. Went I met a guy from the R&A like a month ago, he told me they added 50 yards to #9. So I asked did they purchase the land behind the old tee, cause before it was at the back end of a brick wall. Some of the new tees like 4,9,14,17,18 and a few others kind of want to see what it looks like on TV before doing any guess work. The R&A also moved some bunkers. So far the course is much improved and still a work in progress. Just getting back in to this and right now using the 07 engine to play the game and test out courses. More than likely will not replant this course with 08 stuff. |

This is the last one, I promise, was lucky to find all 4 rounds of coverage from the 1980 British Open, video restoration is what my hobby is, kind of lucky to find the BBC coverage and than restore it. This is an out-take of the footage of the 4 rounds, which was designed as the DVD menu for the completed remastered footage.
