Hi simgolfers.
I'm still playing Tiger Woods '99 - yes from the last century ! I play single player tournaments, no online (doubt there are still '99 version online tournaments). I tried to look up tournament rules from sites like CGX tour and clambaker but couldn't find anything relevant.
I've only golfed about four times in my life (driving range, par 3 course twice, real course once). I'm a hack but want to enjoy my Tiger Woods simgolf as realistically as possible so i've been playing with expert opponents, tournament tees, deep rough, fast greens and stiff shafts. I usually also play in stiff winds with gusts and disable helper features (risk meter, targetting arc, adjust for lie, putting lines, mulligans, tiger vision, etc).
For an old game these settings seem to provide fairly realistic gameplay with the exception of the putting greens. When playing with fast greens it seems almost impossible to accurately judge ball distance even when playing on 'realistic'/not fantasy courses. So much so that a relatively level <10' putt may go >4' over and some putts simply roll right off the green. I'm not a newbie with this game (played on/off since 99) but this fast green setting just doesn't seem realistic although i vaguely remember old online tournament rules indicating fast greens must be utilized. I'm sure the gameplay physics have changed in newer versions of the game.
I suppose this post is just thinking outloud as the obvious answer is simply to change greens from fast to normal, which seems much more realistic to me.
Any feedback from experienced golfers/simgolfers welcome.

In TW 2008 even on stock courses the greens textures can be different, this affects the speed of the green , some on v dry / {EXPERT } are almost un playable. Its not just the texture used it depends on the elevation of the green as well. If you have TW 2008 try Cog Hill set expert v dry then you will see. Set up a practise session and just putt on the set v dry greens even on your game if it has that. get TW 2008 well worth the money even if you buy a new DVD or ebay a second hand one. TW 2008 read a putt with the 4 key return with the 1 key, 5 key can be of use as well + the V key shows hole lip lye ect:
The CGX use their own even faster textures i think. |

Thanks for the reply. 'Almost unplayable' summarizes it well. Interesting it's still an issue even on a newer version of the game...guess i'm just an expert wannabe.
TW2008 sounds great, many enhancements over my old '99 version. Guess i'm due for an upgrade :)
