My friend WildBill, who can't type easily, just lost his 08 game with 400 courses. The courses and libraries are all in the proper places, as is the game on C, TW08 is still alive in the XP Add/Remove, but trying to start the game gets "not installed" and the Caddie shows nothing installed, not even stocks.
He has now been through 3 System Restore dates, and each time after reboot he gets an alert that the restore failed.
Help!? |

Hiya Tranz.....
It looks there are no registry entrees for the courses or libraries. Maybe he installed the No course clicking tool (;ClTool08 ), and he cloaked all the courses ? (; When they are cloaked they will be invisible for TW08 ) In that case he has to start the tool, and uncloack the courses and the libraries. |

Could possibly have a virus if he can't do a system restore. |

No, he doesnt have that utility installed. And he does have Norton running. Now the diea is to uninstall Caddie, re-download and reinstall it to see if it will recognize stuff.
Norton is now complaining about the Caddie install.
And now, bypassing Norton, the Caddie install complains that TW08 isnt installed, and wont install. BAH HUMBUG. |

Can you not do a System Restore to last week, or a time when he knows it was working? That should cure most until you find out what happened.
Edit: Sorry, I hadnt realised youd already done 3 ... Try doing it again IN SAFE MODE. |

Like linkspro said it may be a virus and theres a bad one knocking about real bad http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/flame If it was a virus , i think you would have to turn off system restore, then run a full scan and hope Norton finds some thing. then re activate system restore. Another good prog you could try is one which Gunpower advised me to get is Malwarebytes. |

He ended up re-installing the whole game before he heard from me about SAFE mode. Oh well.
Btw, in case anyone wonders about SAFE mode, here's what I wrote him:
Someone on the forum suggested doing a System Restore from Safe Mode. Maybe that would work. To get into Safe Mode, start or reboot your PC and before the usual Windows XP splash screen comes up press and hold down the F8 key on the top of your keyboard. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/safemodexp.htm
You'll get a screen like this below (without my added colored lines). You won't have a mouse at this point, so use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select what you want. The first thing to try is "Last Known Good".
Then hit Enter, it will continue the boot, and you can check your game.
If that doesn't work, reboot again, F8 again, select Safe Mode, continue booting, and go to System Restore. Do what you did yesterday and it might work.
