Hi all Italics can be a very annoying on gameranger.I found 1 way to eliminate 1 of 3 causes of it.If you know its not oyur Firewall or Router then Italics is caused by low ping. Even if u have fast broadband you still can have low ping causing it.Here are 1 method to lower your ping
NOTE only do this if u are acquainted with the windows registry
Your latency plays a key role in determining your game FPS , it may hamper your gamespeed and is also one of the most well Known source of LAG during online play .
You may the apply the following steps to reduce lag :
For Windows
· Go to RUN in your Start Bar ,then type: regedit (;Registry Editor) .
· Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ,open SYSTEM from there on.
· Click on CurrentControlSet Scroll your way down , until you find a folder named Tcpip , now here is what may get tricky for beginners (;DO NOT alter any other files here)
· Expand Tcpip and the Click on Parameters
· Open Interfaces , now before you , will be four folders each containing several files , find the folder having your IP Adress information , the one with IP Autoconfiguration etc and other files .
From here on you have to create two DWORD Vaules (;registry files)
· Go to the folder and left click then new create a DWORD Value
1. Make sure your Base is set to Hexadecimal and Value is set to 1 .you can alter these settings by Modifying the file.
2. Name the First file exactly TCPAskFrequency and the Second one TCPNoDelay. Now Apply the above mentioned settings in step 1 for both the files for Base and Value
Now , you are all done solving your Lag issues , you will witness considerable reduction in your latency and increased internet speed. Happy Gaming . |

Thanx Pat now the people wont need a magnify glass to figure it out lol.
Note on this method: there is scripts you can D/L to do it automatic but its not 100% safe with the all the virusses out there.I wanted to post link to a site with 1 but I scan the attachment and it was a backdoor trojan, so beware of scripts |

Hint: If you are a novice on a computer and have never been into the registry.......STAY OUT!. Its a easy way to screw up your computer and make it inoperable. First off, the method you describe will not work on every computer. Not everyones registry is the same. After clicking on CurrentControlSet you wont see TCPIP. That value is in services. When I open that folder I have 7 subfolders, not 4. Second, I believe the file your looking to add is TCPAckFrequency not TCPAskFrequency. Misspell a word in the registry is a no no. There are programs out there that are as simple as point and click that will adjust your TCP/IP stack and may give you some help. I would first check my ping and latency and if its a problem, call your ISP service provider and ask them if they can help. It may be something in the line that they can adjust. |

All of this is interesting and important but one thing is missing... BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE YOU DO ANY OF THIS! |

Yes your right Links.I mispelled the word its Ask and not Ack I Apologize for that. This is the method for Windows 7 registry Vista should be the same. It is under TCPIP just you must scroll further down.I had average ping,I did this method and my ping dropped from about 220 to 110.But 1 big factor is however how busy the Gameranger server is.All data packets is being Synchronized before it reaches the other person.Even if you have low ping you still can get lag. |

I believe the program your referring to is the TCP Optimizer from Speedguide.net. I have been a member there since 2003 and have used it since its inception. It is a fairly straight and simple program to optimize your internet connection. If you feel up to it, download it, read its documentation and give it a shot. Here is the program:

yup - no offense stylar - but it's much safer for all members to post a link to the source of any registry changing file
and let the user decide the merits of it based on any documentaiton available at that source |
