Edited for language...Neil, you know better than to post language like that. This will be your only warning. |

As I said in the course comments.....
TY all for comments, 1% of people who downloaded this course bothered their *** to say well done, or TY or I didnt like this course because................. Quite honestly, to the ingrates who download my courses without thinking of the time it takes to make them, and who feel it is their right to do so without bothering to comment on how good or bad they think they are then..... **** You, you wont be getting any more. This isnt just the case for my courses, its about all the designers who give up their time to keep a dying game alive and from the majority of downloaders get no credit. Im done on here and any courses I make in future will be for my own satisfaction. Thanks to all who have taken the time to comment on my courses in the past, to everyone else.....

Have to agree with you Neil, almost 500 downloads and only 5 people take the time and courtesy to comment on your course after the many hrs you put into making it.I'm sure i could speak for most designers that they would appreciate the comments good or bad so they could use them on future projects. Today were losing one of the best designers out there (if not the best)
Cmon members it only takes a min to leave a comment |

I understand your frustration, Neil, I really do. But the language you used in your post is not appropriate on this site ever.
This has been a frustration point for a lot of architects for a long time and I wish I could give you a good solution. The designers have always been the ones that have kept this game alive and it stinks that more people do not take the time to acknowledge the work done, whether to indicate what they liked or did not like.
I will say this though. If a designer is doing their designs so they can get a pat on the back or lots of 'WOW that was great' comments, they are doing it for the wrong reason. Yes, they should be recognized for the work they put in and for the good work they do and it stinks when no one takes the time to do it. But they should be doing it because they enjoy designing and enjoy sharing their work with the community, not because they are looking for recognition. That should be the ultimate reason they are doing what they do.
That is my take on the issue. |

I have to agree with JS here. I rarely if ever leave any responses to the designers (except a negative comment once in a great while) but I do appreciate all the hard work they put in to making courses for the community. I have other talents that I won't mention here and put forth great effort without any acknowledgement, nor do I ask for it. It's almost like doing something for charity. I do it because I enjoy helping others do something they may not have been able to accomplish or complete themselves. That is where the satisfaction for the work comes in. It makes ME feel good. No verbal or monetary response is needed. |

As long as I have been a member on this site the amount of comments made on courses has been very low. I have just looked back to 2 outstanding courses released in September and November 2007: Couer D'Alene 13713 downloads (21 comments), Wailea Gold 9949 downloads (15 comments). I am afraid that this is just normal for the site, maybe lots of members do not feel comfortable leaving a comment. Neil I for one will greatly miss your courses and sincerely hope that you will re-consider your decision. The cyber golfing community is continually shrinking, as can be readily seen by the amount of course downloads now compared to a few years ago, losing talented designers will surely only accelerate the decline. I used to leave comments on courses, but due to an issue I do not wish to go into at present, I now prefer to send a PM directly to the course designer. |

Further to Sammy & Jimbo's stats, I just downloaded one of rlslay's courses which did not have even ONE comment from 870 downloads. Actually, there IS a comment there, but it's from the man himself, just providing a note of explanation re the course. As you all know, Rob (rlslay) is also in the top echelon of designers, so I was completely gobsmacked to see that.
It was great to see Pat (Gunpower61) recently encouraging people via the Shoutbox to leave comments on courses & it appears to have drawn a few out of hibernation, so maybe the occasional reminder/request? |

I agree with you Jeff. I get my satisfaction from putting out a course that for one, I don't have to do a version 2 because I screwed up something and didn't catch it in time and from the number of downloads I get.. In this day and age I figure if you get at least 500 downloads, then you did a very good job and that is all I want to do. I want to put out a course that folks can play that has no defects. Is it nice to get compliments, of course it is but I would rather get 500 downloads then 500 compliments, to me, that is the compliment..
Just my take.

Last take on the subject. Again I have all the respect and admiration for all those that spend their time and take the initiative to complete these beautiful courses and libraries. I probably have 800 courses. I've probably played 500. I download new courses everytime one comes out so that if I do get into a game I know I'll have the course. Once I do play a course I wouldn't remember if I left a comment on the course anyway. I could have downloaded it months ago and never played it or just never played it at all. Be proud of the fact that you have the knowledge and skills to produce something that other people will enjoy for time to come. |

Neil, that's a shame.. There are many here that give their time and or funds to keep this site and game alive for NO comments.. They do just as Jeff and axe say.. Trust me, I've felt the same way before as you do. You are talented and obviously have a love for it.
Keep it up bud!!

Neil
I just read your post...I'm one of the folks that hardly ever post a comment about the GREAT job you and the other designers do...Sorry...I'm just lazy...but you are one of the VERY BEST designers...And do hope that you still design courses. I really do enjoy the work that you do. Please continue with your GREAT work.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH

I don`t always remember to make comments on courses myself, recently I have decided that whenever I create a room in GameRanger that lists the desired course to play I am also going to list the persons name that created the course, out of respect for their efforts.
I figure it only takes a second and they deserve the recognition. |

IMO its not just comments its the fact that a course can be { Rated } without a comment. But i must conceed again IMO that most probably just leave the comments on a course to people with more experience or other Architects ?
When a course is uploaded most just hit the D/L do they take time to read the Arch`s comments ?.

The download count is just as rewarding and indicative of how well you designed the course, think of each download over 12 as a great job Sir!. I was not even in game design school yet when TW 08 came out, so i dint know how to properly design anything, just how to manipulate terrain mesh into well, clay. Now that i am out of school i am ready to embark on a spiritual journey, like eat, pray, design lol. and i will think of each download of any of my courses as a compliment. I hope you do too. |
