I am officially disgusted with EA's lastest version of a "golf game" so I went back and have played all the old versions from 2003-2008 this weekend. What is everyone's opinion on the best version of TW ever? Where are people still playing online? I want to get back into the old versions and play with old friends...is that happening anywhere?

When you still want to play with other people you will have to use TW08.
Loads of custom courses for TW08.
People are still playing online on TW08:
When you scroll down, left side on homepage you will see: Community links, with several sites.
Some sites are using a separate game launcher, and other sites are playing on Hamachi.
You can also play TW08 on Gameranger:

Thanks for the info Gunpower, I appreciate it!! Disappointing that it has to be 2k8, but understandable..ha. I havent been able to find my old 2K8 disc, is there anywhere on line you can still buy it? I didnt see it at ea.com?

Is there anyway still to play TW2k4 online versus an opponent? Any method out there? any info would be much appreciated, thanks!

EA sports isn t selling TW08 anymore,but with some luck you find a version on ebay or other site:
