Suddenly when trying to start the game from its icon or the desktop shortcut the disc just spins and spins, then finally an alert comes up, "UNABLE TO AUTHENTICATE ORIGINAL DISC WITHING TIME LIMIT". I searched here for the exact phrase UNABLE TO AUTHENTICATE and it came up with nothing.

Just since starting to type this I had the idea to check the disc for scratches aand smudges. No scratches, but a few smudges. I cleaned it as well as I could with my lens cleaning cloth and tried again. IT WORKS NOW. For now...
