Hi,

after a long pause Im finally back to TW06 / TW07 / TW08 under Windows 7 x64 with a widescreen monitor. I have a couple of questions and I would much appreciate your help!

I use the Universal Widescreen Patcher and Im able to run with success all versions except the TW06 which can be displayed at 1920x1080, but alas the menus, especially the Leaderboard and the Scorecard are too big, the OK and CANCEL buttons are hidden, so TW06 has become unplayable (;it can be run at 4/3 resolutions, but thats really no fun with a 24 monitor). On the other side, my TW07 runs fine, but has only few courses. So if I can, Id like to transfer the courses not existing in TW08 in order to play them there.

1) Is that possible and will courses of TW06 & TW07 run in TW08?
2) What course tools must I use (;or what must I do) to transfer them?

Career Editor:
Its a pity that this is not present anymore in TW08, but Ive read a post where you can use TW06 to build a new career and then transfer the files to TW07. I imagine this would also work when transfering to TW08.

3) Will this work?

And finally (;thanks for your patience):

Maybe I have found an interesting method to edit AI players to be used in the Career Mode(;Amateur Tour, PGA Tour etc.) as well as in custom games, but I need your advice about the *.plr player files.

I have a Trainer for TW08 in which I can freeze the Attribute points to assign at will.

I then create a player and give them a suitable attribute strongness for a tour.

I go in the folder Documents\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\Career\Players and transfer the .plr file of the created player in the players folder located in the game folder
...\players\PGATour (;or in another Tour).

Now the question is: when I start a new PGA season, will my player appear in the Leaderboard of a tournament and play according to the set strongness? If yes, then I can have full control of the Season process, also avoiding the scenario where I play a difficult course, lets say the Greek Islands and other players score consistently -15 which is very unrealistic.
So my last question is:

4) Will the above scenario work, or can it be changed to work?

I thank you very much for your feedback !!

1) Most 07 courses should work with no problem. I do believe there are a couple that will crash back to the desktop, but for the most part you shouldnt have any problem with them. Not all 06 ones will work, but it is worth trying to install them. I know the 06 stocks work without a problem and I think a good number of 06 customs should work too.

2) You will use the TW Caddie program to install any courses or libraries into TW08, whether they are 06, 07 or 08 courses. You will need this version for your version of Windows.

3) Career editor will not work in 08 unfortunately. Some have tried that same 06 to 08 procedure for 08, but I have not seen anyone have success with it.

4) Perhaps someone else can answer this one since I dont really do anything with the season mode of the game.

You may also want to look at the bottom left of the front page in the Community Links section to find some sites that run offline tours and clubs for 08.

Hi Jarvis,

thanks a lot for your tips! It's good news for me that I can at least use the stock courses from previouse TW versions in TW08. I have already downloaded some for TW06 in the past and will also try them out.

For the Career Editor, it's bad news, but I'm not saying my last word here, I'll try it out and post my results.

I'm currently trying out 4) and it looks good: I've modified Tiger Woods to play like a feeble, hex-editing the plr file just to see him at the very end of the leaderboard afterwards. Just don't tell him :)
But this was just a file exchange where I have edited the first 3 hex lines (minus 3) of the plr to fit the name. But if this goes alright, then the more complex operations should also work.

Thanks you!
I'll be back,
XenonS

Ok, I'm back after trying out to change the .plr files in the PGATour / PGAChamp folders, which are relevant for the offline Tour, as well as the Documents\...\players folder which is relevant for Custom Games where you play life against computer players and where the abilities can be changed.

Interesting to note:
.plr files will work in *both* folders with their corresponding performance results, IF the name inside the plr corresponds with the file name. The simplest way is as discussed by Bangus in another post:
Create a player, go in the Custom games, change it to Computer player, change his abilities, add it to the right side (partecipants in the game). In this very moment TW will write the updated .plr file in the Documents\...\players folder. Here you can tranfer it into any folder like PGATour, PGAChamp, for custom 18 hole Stroke Tournaments even in a new folder created by you.
When playing a multiround event, the game will use this folder.
You can even change the folder composition (after a Backup for security) DURING a offline season, no need to restart the season.
You are able this way to create tournaments with very specific average Par results if necessary.
These plr files will also work the opposite way: you can transfer a plr file from the PGATour folder to Documents\...\players after adding all other default files (there is a folder of that name) and the player will then appear in the selectable list, sometimes even with a character design (outfit), although I don't see any advantage in doing that.

After reading the posts about TW08 not being able to implement the .gcf file created with the Career Editor of TW06, I will transfer all my courses into TW07. So, if want to modify the career later on I will be able to do that. But it's a mistery for me that career changes will work in TW07: There are already 4 FedEX tournaments at december in TW07, exactly like in TW08. So why does it work in TW07, but NOT in TW08 ?! Also, how will TW07 handle the statistics of FedEX events when playing an edited career ?

My conclusion: TW08 will not accept any edited glf file for the career because there are FedEX statistics in it and a different number of tournaments per month. In CE you are only allowed 3 tourneys/month. There must however be a method of fooling the program to accept the gcf file. Hex-edit operations of the file are not recommended because VERY time-consuming and not worth the whole thing.

There are tours out there that recreate the entire fedex seasons with career stats and all events played on the actual courses. Check the links on the left hand side of the main page

Hi Xenon. I created a custom CPU golfer file for season mode some time ago. It's here:

http://www.coursedownloads.com/extras/details.asp?id=713

My read-me file might answer some of your questions. There are specific folders you need to put your created plr files in depending on the event you're playing. One way of getting CPU players to stop shooting ridiculously low scores at Greek Islands would be to create more than one set of CPU golfers. Install a different set of plr files into the appropriate PGA Tour folder when you're about to play Greek Isles. If you edit their abilities and make them better/worse than normal, they will shoot lower/higher scores at any tourney you decide. That's pretty much the only way to do that.
