Okay, I'm trying this crude method whether it works or not is beyond me and really have nothing to lose. My question is, if you freeze a HDD for 24 hrs in the freezer, does it have a possibility of booting up long enough to get info off of it?

its been known to, with a damaged or non functioning drive
how long to freeze - seen 2-3 hrs up to 24 hrs
make sure to seal it in a ziplock bag to prevent condensation, 2 even, double wrapping cant hurt and once removed, be ready to start it up and grab whatever data you can right away
estimates vary, but hopefully youll get up to 20-30 minutes of transfer time
after all that - maybe it works, maybe not, but worth a try |

Ahh, Thanks JB, I did double it up with zip lock for that reason.
I'll report later on how it went... :) |

Boze, you can try a new circuit board for the hard drive, they do not cost that much to try, and you may save your data. Did you happen to buy two of those hard drives at that hard drive purchase. You can try a different computer or OS, that works sometimes. The link below has what you may need.

Thanks Ron, I'll look into that.. Not sure what you mean by purchasing the two hard drives.. This one I have is a WD that originally came with the computer.
Thanks again! |
