I go through this every year: after renting the latest TW game for the console, I'm sure glad I have three great PC versions (06-08) to return to. Playing that console version is like playing in a virtual golf vacuum. Slice your ball 20 yards left off the tee and it magically re-appears on the fairway with a one-stroke penalty. You never see any other hole or fairway in the game except the one you happen to be playing at the moment. It's not a golf *course* -- it's a collection of disconnected holes that have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
Even worse in my mind is the complete and utter lack of customization options. Where is the course creator? Where is the ability to customize career mode tournaments and preferences? Or the ability to edit and create custom CPU golfers and add them to the Tour? It honestly is shameful the way EA has systematically removed these tools and options in order to cash in on downloadable content and online gaming subscriptions. And all at the expense of community support sites like this one.
And here's the kicker for me, which IMO really shows EA must employ monkeys to program this game: The game comes with I think 16 courses. Another 20 courses are available to purchase online. Yet career mode, which consists of a 22-tournament schedule that can't be customized, utilizes FOUR COURSES THAT ARE USED TWICE IN THE SEASON! WTH? A 5 year-old child would look at that and say, "How come we have to play that course again, Daddy? We already played that one!" Hello? EA programmers? Anybody home? |
