I have downloaded & installed the free M/s utility which enables Windows 7 users to switch to XP mode. The help that goes with it says that all you have to do when it is installed is goto "Start" menu. When I go to start menu, the option is not apparant. Am I missing something obvoius here? By opening the program files folder there is a folder calledcf "XP mode" within the "windows" folder. There isn't however an exe file. Should there be one?

Any help with this would be appeciated.

The way we are playing here you might want to throw the clubs in the lake. If you throw the clubs in the lake, you might miss the lake.

No course in the works: retired.

Have you downloaded and installed Windows Virtual PC software from Microsoft, I don't think XP mode will work without the Virtual PC software.

What version of Win 7 are you running? The XP mode will only work with the Pro and Ultimate versions of Win 7. And as Jimbo mentioned, I believe you will need the Virtual PC download as well.

That is correct. I upgraded to pro just so I could use it. But Microsoft will not even let you download Virtual XP (I believe) unless they see that your system has the correct O.S. And believe it or not, once I had it, I went back to a dual boot system because the virtual XP ran so slow. Oh, and you need an actual copy of XP to install on the Virtual PC mode. It does not actually just show up there without the install. Basically you are just running XP inside (or on top of) of Windows 7. That probably explains the slowdown of the system. If you need an upgrade, I found mine online for $89 - I think it was amazon.

my experience is a little different
inline upgrade to win7 Pro
downloaded xp-mode and virtual pc form MS
installed both, along with system verification that i had qualifying OS (;win7 pro)
(;remember to set your memory usage for virtp-c, default is 512)
now in my start menu is virt-pc with subfolder for xp mode

i did NOT need an actual copy of XP to install, that is what xp-mode download is (;you need to have a qualified version of Win7 to enable the download and verify the install - minimum Win7Pro)

steve - changing the memory allocation for virtual PC would probably help the slowness, try 1024 or greater depending what you have on your PC

because it is a virtual pc - my TW06 will not load (;dont bother installing graphics drivers as there is a virtual graphics card used in xp-mode) but i can install libraries, and run both the LC and CA for compiling

then load the finished tcr or tcl into tw08 in normal Win7 to see/test etc
