I cant figure out how to change the name of my golfer in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08. On the Game Face screen, the name is grayed out for all of my custom golfers. In the profile section, there only seems to be the option to create or delete. I looked at the files in the \Documents\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\ folders, and I tried changing the name there on all of the files in which it appeared, but that didnt work. Also, for some reason, I dont have a .aia file for this golfer, like I do for all the others. Is that the reason why I cannot rename the golfer? Any help would be appreciated.

In game face you have golfers that came with the game and you can create your own golfer as well, but did you know you can create up to 50 golfers with different creation names ?
I have 2 dozen golfers I created ( all celebrities) that I switch and use when I play on LAN via Hamachi.
So to answer your question, No you cannot change your name, but you can make another golfer and keep both of them and use which one you prefer at the time for online play.
As for offline play you can build up each golfer by playing in the offline tournaments.

On another note, if your interested in playing TW08 online contact me at Popzm@cox.net and I can help you out as I am the head Tech Admin at a site that uses Hamachi and myleague.com for ladders and tournaments also using skype. All free to you.

the game software does not provide for name change once the golfer is created

and i believe the site rules prohibits discussion of hacks etc of the game code

Easy there. I just want to change my golfer's name, not hack the game code. I figured it was just a matter of finding and changing all instances of the name. I'm beginning to think, however, that it's stored inside a file that's in a proprietary format--one that can't be modified with a text editor.

So you definitively know that renaming a golfer cannot be done without modifying the source code? If so, I'll stop experimenting with it and posting about it.

I just want my golfer in the leaderboards to have a first and last name like all the other golfers. Frankly I was a little taken aback at the suggestion that I might be after something illegal or otherwise nefarious when what I want to do is so benign. Let's just leave it at that. I'm sure you intended no offense.

i stated a long standing site policy
what ever it is, for what ever reason - keep it off the forums basically
that way no one has to decide on any merits, intent, etc

i wasn't suggesting, implying, winking, nudging - nada

Im talking about changing my golfers name, and youre acting as if that means Im asking for advice on this forum of hacking the games code. Im not, and *youre* the one who brought up hacking the game code! I dont know how I can put it more clearly than what Ive already written. I want to change my golfers name. I do *not* want to hack the games code. If those two things could somehow be synonymous, then please explain how. In my mind, altering data (;golfers name) produced with compiled code (;TW08) hardly constitutes hacking pre-compiled code. Like I could get access to it anyway!

To put it simply - you cannot change your golfer's name - period. If you want a different name you will need to create a new golfer.
