I am pretty sure that someone has went through all my courses and given them a 1. I'm sick fed up of this and until its sorted out I will be uploading no more courses here. It takes weeks of work to get out a course of a decent standard, and while I'd be doing it for my own enjoyment anyway the fact is I have been more than happy to share my courses here and hopefully some people enjoy them. Probably less than 1% of the ingrates here even bother to comment on courses which they download, thats bad enough when you think of the time we spend making them, but when some spiteful little person goes round marking down courses without having the common decency to leave a comment why, then for me thats the last straw. I'll post on here next time I have a course ready and anyone interested can PM me.

Hey Neil, maybe you could just turn off the ratings, just a thought.

Take Care,

It would be good if to rate a course, your name showed and the rating you gave was visible but I know thats probably not possible. Its like you said a while back Neil theres spiteful people do this kinda thing to feed their petty grubby infantile little minds. It does feel like a thankless task releasing courses that you've put weeks or monthe of effort into just to have someone who like you say probaly hasn't even played the course rate it a one out of spite.
I love your courses and enjoy and appreciate your work very much and I know many others do too.

There are people that also have gone through all my courses and given them a 1. Just don't let it get to you would be my advice.

It happens to most of us Bobby, but that doesn't make it right. The facilty is there to stop it happening but it isn't used.

I can't argue with that, Neil, as you are 100% right. I guess my point is that I design for my own pleasure and although it's great to get a good rating or review of a course, I try not to take it personal. For all the people that don't like your course and/or give it a bad review, there are probably at least 10 people that are pleased with it or like it a lot.

I know this is easy to say but don't let this get you down, just keep up your excellent course designing, as 99.99 per cent appreciate what you are doing. I totally agree with you about the lack of comments, it is very frustrating.

Just some additional thoughts about this Neil. When your next course is ready you are going to get hundreds of PMs, think of the work involved in sorting them out. If more people left a rating then a vindictive one rating would hardly change the average. If I thought that was happening on my courses I would turn off the ratings the next time I uploaded a course. Onwards and upwards. Best regards, Jim.

Neil...... were I you , I'd take it as a compliment. It's the work of one of two folks....... either a jealous designer ( who thinks " damn, how does this guy crank out so many great designs so quickly.......... he's gotta be cheating......) or some 16 year old who's upset that he can't just grip it and rip it on your designs .

Frankly, I'm chagrined, and I apologize. Too many of us download courses and rush off to play them , never returning to offer our view of how they play ( I reckon we get caught up.......). That's just wrong. As for myself, I get most of your stuff for the tour at PGAX, but lately, I've been focused more on playing beta tester for " TW, oh so not ready for prime time", and I've neglected the tour.

I can imagine how you feel about folks like us that don't bother to even provide a little feedback, and again, my apologies..........

I hear you, Neil. Every single time I release a course the rating changes downward at least one whole point after the initial ratings are in place. I don't know how many ratings are given but it seems that it takes more than one negative to affect the change, so I think it is either one person with multiple logins or a group of people. I have some ideas who may be involved, but I figure it's not worth diddling over. As was said earlier, you can always choose to have the ratings turned off. I used to do that, but then figured I would let the kiddies have their fun.

Keep making courses!

Steve
Surely one person can't keep giving ratings on a course. I thought that once you had given a rating then you would not be able to rate that same course again. If someone can give multiple ratings on the same course is there no way to stop this happening? What would a group of people achieve by dropping the ratings of different courses? If as PC states five different courses dropped by half a point then it is probably someone extracting the urine just to see what reactions it provokes. If anyone downloading courses can't trust the ratings as shown on the site then IMO they are just a waste of time.

Unfortunately it is usually a group of friends or a particular club that all come on at one time and put negative votes on a particular course. I have seen it happen before where I check the ratings and see multiple people vote 1 on a course. Then when I check on EASO I will find each person that voted that way are part of a club.

So what can be done about this Jeff? IMO and it may be a bit harsh Id ban these people from the site.

Another option which has been mentioned before is to make it impossible to leave a low rating without a comment as to why the course is being downrated.

The main reason this site is so successful is the fact that people can come here and download custom courses. The tour and forums are great but if it werent for the designers there would be a lot fewer members Id suggest. I think its time to look after course designers a little more and stop this **** happening. When I said I wouldnt upload my courses in future it may have sounded a bit Prima Donna like, but I meant what I said. If this carries on I dont think I will be the last.

Name and shame these gits, delete their marking, including all the 5 marks they give their mates and let us continue uploading courses without this crap happening.

Good point about a comment with a low rating. A one rating is 'Needs work', but probably every course uploaded to the site would benefit from additional work. It would be useful for designers to know why a course 'needed work'. It is the same with the two rating 'Getting There', what additional work is required to get the course there? Ratings three to five do not really need any additional comments. It is obviously much easier to just leave a rating without having to explain why.

I know this is an old thread but would just like to add I laugh when a course has just been uploaded and a few downloads and is immediately elevated to 5 star status, its so obvious! lol and soon as you know it its gone down to a more realistic 3 star status....where it ends up. anyone who marks Neils courses a 1 star is a moron, simple as that.

I agree with the 1 star part Phil. The course would have to be total crap and unplayable in every sense.
I have uploaded a course before, 1 I think and it was given a 5 star rating right off the bat, yes it finally went down to a 4, but it wasnt me who gave myself that rating, but I know what you mean, it does look suspicious.. Now as far as giving Neil a 1, yes that is got to be spite from someone, hell I think anyone who puts out a playable course should get at least a 3 for effort. Not saying anything towards Neil at all, I happen to think he makes pretty darn good courses. Thats a good reason I dont like the rating system so much..But, what are you going to do?

Mates rating courses as 5star is just as bad in my opinion. There is a certain course designer ( no names mentioned but I bet some of you will know who I mean) who fires out new courses at an alarming rate and he gets some great comments but strangely they are always from the same people. I actually downloaded one and was shocked that it was so bad.

Knowing that designers are really proud of what they do I only wish I had rated more courses in the past. I always seem to forget after I have logged off the site and played the course. Would it be possible to have a reminder when you log in for example- "Your last course downloaded was **************. Please rate this course"?
