Why? The 07 servers were up a full 2 years longer than they normally would have been....and EA is not about to alienate the TW PC community by shutting the 08 servers before TW Online is ready to replace TW08 (if ever).... |

I agree. I don't think players are goung to flock to a paid version of TW online until it gets much, much better than it is. TW08 is the home of pretty much the entire customer base, I would guess. It would not be in EA's interest to shut down 08 servers until the community fully embraces TWOL. I'm not so sure that will ever happen without a CA and the open course piece in place.
As is so often the case, corporations ignore or underestimate the creative power and drive of the customers. The corporate mindset is focused on domination, coercion, and manipulation of the customer for profit, believing that we are all mindless sheep. I am sure that I am not alone in believing that the original release of the CA was a whim or an afterthought, and EA had no idea what they were unleashing: A community of driven, creative force that would take on a life of it's own, overcoming obstacles and building something only an unfettered, cooperative community could develop. It's like the matrix out here, only the paeans have taken over instead of the machines.
I did not discover TW and the CA until late. If I had known this was going on in 2002 I would have organised a hostile takeover of EA in order to prevent what will inevitibly be the ned of user-driven open source content for golf simulation.
It's as if the Ford Motor Company would one day decide that it would only sell Mustangs that had bad paint and upholstery, and ran rough, and were entirely proprietary and could not be modified in in any way.
And I really, really hope I am completely wrong about all this. |

you have to remember EA is out to make money, and the only real competition TW online would have is TW 08 , and i just cant see EA letting TW 08 be the competition against its own product. just doesnt make economic sense. |

Competition? TW08 hardly brings in any revenue to EA. TWO brings in NONE right now and won't for a while. The TWO Devs know what they are up against with TWO compared to TW08 and the last thing they will do is piss off all of the TW08 users by shutting down the servers and alienating them completely against TWO no matter how good that game may become...yeah, I see your point.... |
