I am not sure if this should go here or elsewhere, so if it is moved that is ok by me. For you designers out there (or anyone who might know the answer). I just had an experience that was weird and not sure what causes it. I was playing a custom round with two custom players being controlled by the game on a custom course. When we started a par 5, every player was lined up about 30 degrees to the right of the fairway. Since I controlled my player, I re-aligned mine and shot it right down the fairway. Each of the custom players hit their drives right into the trees, then their second, and their third, with not a single attempt to pitch back into the fairway. Bottom line, I managed a birdy while the two brainiacs took a 9 and a 10. I have seen this on rare instances, but not to this extent. Is it something to do with the way the teebox is layed out on the course?... I ask this because it very seldom happens, but I have seen this before. Just not to the extent of this one. |

Possibly the tees arent quite right, particularly if you arent playing off the pro tees. I must admit, I put down 4 tees, but apart from looking at them on CA I dont test them on TW08 except for the pro tee. PGAX mention on their course comments that they only recommend playing of Pro tees. If its the pro tees that are the problem I hope it isnt one of mine.
Cheers
Neil
BTW did you see your pic with Jack? |

Thanks Neil, yes I did see the picture with Jack. It was a pleasure meeting him and he has agreed to show me some tips...LOL. Actually, on the course question, I play only the pro tees, so it will affect anyone that plays that particular course using the pro tees. It was not a course of yours, and I didn't want to put someone on the spot by announcing here who's it is. It is a great course, but apparently has some issues. |

I didn't actually read your question right, looking at it again, I'd say it was the way the shot paths had been set up, probably to get all the hole to appear in the overhead, and the PC players didn't have the AI to adjust. :)
Cheers

That makes sense. The hole itself was a severe dogleg left, but the players lined up hitting right of the fairway. The overhead map did include all of the hole, so if that is how the system works it could explain the results. Thanks
BTW: You live in one beautiful country. My wife and I had the opportunity to visit and see a lot of it a few years back. Wasn't there long enough to play a round, but did get to stand on the first hole at St. Andrews. It was quite a feeling. |

Hey oldhacker, I haven't run across this before, but you might want to ask the designer, that way he can be made aware if there is/was or is/was not a problem with his/her course, then they could fix/or not fix the problem. I know if someone found an issue on one of my courses, I would be most grateful to hear about it. And you are a gentleman, not to want to put someone on the spot. Thank you Larry. |

Ok, It kind of depends on the shot path on a hole and if you are playing in high winds. Sometimes the computer player will try to play safe (;Which is more like stupid) and hit like a 7 iron off a tee. It also kind of depends on how the creator of the custom course sets up the shot paths. The wind thing, it is a problem with the AI in the game, it has been around since 04.
Back when I did courses, I only used 1 shot path per hole. I felt the courses were designed to be played from specific tees. I didnt want ladies tees or members tees. Sometimes when I wanted to use different tee boxes on a hole I would set more tee paths. What this did was depending on how you set up the game, you could play the holes from different teeing angles.
For visual purposes I would always set up tee markers on the other tees (;aka Ladies aka Members tees)
Than in the INI file I would set the yardages up like so:
[Conditions] Skydome=1 GreenCond=3 RoughLength=3 WindSpeed=3
[HOLE 1] yardage=397, 409, 442, 442
[HOLE 2] yardage=339, 375, 418, 418
[HOLE 3] yardage=180, 193, 210, 210
[HOLE 4] yardage=412, 416, 497, 497
[HOLE 5] yardage=406, 418, 420, 420
[HOLE 6] yardage=142, 154, 172, 172
[HOLE 7] yardage=464, 486, 532, 532
[HOLE 8] yardage=395, 415, 455, 455
[HOLE 9] yardage=366, 373, 388, 388
[HOLE 10] yardage=351, 370, 414, 414
[HOLE 11] yardage=202, 213, 242, 242
[HOLE 12] yardage=340, 361, 381, 381
[HOLE 13] yardage=420, 441, 459, 459
[HOLE 14] yardage=507, 535, 550, 550
[HOLE 15] yardage=435, 438, 475, 475
[HOLE 16] yardage=150, 161, 163, 163
[HOLE 17] yardage=392, 410, 428, 428
[HOLE 18] yardage=429, 441, 460, 460 |
