From Dean...

Apologies for the lack of recent news but we've been waiting for the Publisher to confirm a release date. I'm pleased to announce we will be making the new game available around the end of June so not much longer to wait. I also know that there are several exciting new courses coming too, to coincide with the new release, so please keep an eye open for more news soon.

Also...

The CPG 2010 Demo is now available through Customportal, in the Demo tab.

Elswhere....

Terry Armstrong has released the 'Pelican Hill Ocean Course'. Details at the "Live" site

Dave, where can you get this download? I would really like to check it out. Also, is it true there will be a Wii version of Customplay Golf. Thanks, Dave L.

CPG have just updated the game and demo with changes to the controls: -

Controls are now independant of framerate
This should hopefully help some of you out who were having performance issues.

Swingmeter - right click to cycle between 100%, 50% and 25% power

New update from the devs at CPG...

------------------------------------
* Slowed down the speed of the down swing when using the click meter and the power is set to 50% or 25%
* When in practice mode, the mouse swing is represented on-screen using a red line (for the back swing) and a green line (for the down swing)
* New mouse swing - we recommend you spend some time in "practice mode" where you will be able to see the swing you make and the effect it has on the ball
* Added a "Putting Mouse Sensitivity" option (under the Options->Controls dialog) - larger value requires bigger mouse movement
* Removed references to shot power (i.e. 100%, 50% and 25%) when NOT using the click meter
* Scaled the effect of the wind on the ball according to the height above the ground - resulting in much more realistic ball behaviour in high winds
* Fixed a non-zero D3D reference count when changing graphics options on the course

We have also updated the Demo of CPGolf 2010 to include these changes.

As always, many thanks to the beta testers for their feedback especially with the new (and much improved) mouse swing.

Enjoy!

Rich has released an update that hopefully fixes a crash bug that some people have been having lately. Whilst searching for this bug Rich also took the time to optimise a few areas of the code that were causing some major slow-down - for example: creating the mini map, creating the golf ball texture and compositing the flags. Hopefully you will notice the speed up when loading a course, creating or editing players, and when changing holes.

CPG have released a new update with the following...

Slowed down the click-meter down swing
Reduced the punishment for missing the sweet spot using the click meter
Fixed the Network Play Leaderboard dialog
Fixed "flying windmills" bug
Stopped the pin from animating when the pin and flag are semi-transparent (i.e. ball is on green)
Ensured text is scaled to fit inside "sticky" buttons

They have also updated the lobby in the portal so if someone adds a chat message when the portal is not the active window, the window will flash to get your attention.

New Course! CPG have released Jim Dickson's superb rendition of 'Saxe Gothe' which can be downloaded via the Portal, from the 'Courses' tab.

New Update.

Added the "Power Guide" when using the 2-click or 3-click meter. This displays a triangle marker on the power bar suggesting what power you should aim for. This can be turned on/off via the Create/Edit player screens.

Some users have been reporting some crashing which so far Dean and Rich have been unable to duplicate in testing. Rich did, however, find a memory leak and it has been fixed with a small update.

If anyone is still experiencing crashes, (or indeed any bugs), please upload the game logfile straight after the crash to the 24hr gaming Customplay site Technical section so they can continue to track this issue.

Dave Farmer has released Aphrodite Cliffs, a fictional course set in Cyprus, a few miles south west of Paphos. The course is named after Aphrodite the Greek Goddess of love. She is said to have first emerged from the sea here and one of the offshore rocks you see is called Aphrodite's Rock to commemorate this.

The course is 7200 yards long and is a par 72.
