First, I would just like to say that I have never played a round in real life, or even swung a club outside of putt-putt with the family on vacation.

Second I would like to add: Until today! I received some lessons from my wife as a father's day gift. The instructor was excellent, and I have never felt anything like that first solid contact with that 5 wood.

I would like to thank:
The guy on ebay who sold me a set of decent clubs for $32.85
My son for the father's day gift of of a very nice bag.
My wife for encouraging me to actually try this, and for the lessons.
...and EA Sports & everyone here for piquing my interest in the game.

How lucky am I? I have a wife that insisted that I take up golf!

You'll be addicted in no time.

Also, you're not the only one here who doesn't golf IRL. I know of a member or two who are just picking up on the game.

There is always one shot that gets you back on the tee next week Woody. One shot that you know the pros would have been happy with. You'll find it is the most frustrating game you've ever played at times but you'll get better every round you play and in no time you'll end up like most of us...chipping in the backyard, putting on the carpet and visualising tomorrows round as you drift off to sleep. Welcome to hell ;)

Have fun because it's a great game that I miss big time playing in real life like I used too, and like many have said. That one great shot just makes all the bad ones go away that very second, and soaking up the killer views & wildlife is very therapeutic. Well....except them gators....... LOL

My 1st time playing I almost got a hole-in-one on Gateway golf course down in Ft Myers, but still got a birdie, and I was hooked on golf after that round. My buddy I was playing with said I had one of the sweetest natural swings he'd ever seen, and couldn't believe I never swung a club before that day, but then I had to start trying learn the inner workings with a golf swing. This is when I messed up with hitting the ball, but good thing you are getting lesson off the bat so you don't start bad habits with your swing.

After playing this game I think it could really carry over to the real life golf out on the Links to improve anyone's game because this game has great golf management skills needed, putting acts very real life like so reading greens in this game should help there too.

Good luck, and enjoy it every minute of it buddy

Hey nuttwoody, it is also my goal to take a lesson this summer, I already have the clubs, been to the driving range, but don't want to get into bad habits before I even start.

There are so many beautiful golf courses around Banning, CA. and a couple of PGA courses right around the corner, that I can't wait to get started.

I just know I will love being out there with the beautiful grass and scenery and to at least be able to hit the fairways a reasonable amount of time, would be awesome. I guess finding the sweet spot with a golf club would kinda be like finding the sweet spot with a baseball bat, it feels sooooo gooood..

Peace

Golf is a great sport, a true test of patience, believe me, a few of my clubs have found a pond or two...

And Axe, it all depends what your hitting with that baseball bat as far as a sweet spot. ; )

Im sure youll love it Nutty, and as Bobby said youll be addicted in no time. I remember when I first moved to Carnoustie I hadnt been playing for long. I lived about 200 yards from the first tee and almost every night I got home from work and was straight down to the course to get in as many holes as I could before dark. In the summer I could get 18 no problem. In these days (;about 25 years ago) it cost me £80 for a years golf at Carnoustie. That covered 2 courses and latterly 3 when they built Barry Buddon to add to Carnoustie and Burnside. They all loop round each other with the Medal course in the middle. My wife would come and walk the courses with me sometimes but I could never get her to carry my bag.

Cheers

One of the best moments for me out on the courses wasnt even anything to do with play. It started raining so the club rang the rain horn, but I just had smack a 6 Iron(;par 3) 1ft from the pin off the tee. So instead of going all that way back to the clubhouse while a short Florida summer shower went by. I perched under a tree, and watch a huge Eagle take a bath in the rain. It was so sweet, and watching him flapping his wings back & forth was so neat while he stared up in the sky. He was at the very top of a pine tree so the view of the eagle was perfect.
Wish I had my camera with me, but it still is a moment Ill never forget, so keep your eye around the whole course while playing, and I tried not to get all angry like some of the golfers I played with did(;One friend threw a $700 club in the pond once....LOL).
Never matter how I played I enjoyed it, sucked up the nice vibes, and tried not to wreck the golf cart either while drinking. I have done this before, and it wasnt pretty........LOL

In calif. things are a little diff. I remember once, teeing off on a par 3, my shot went to the left in the dp rough, behind a tree, as I went behind the tree a damn bum sat up and said, sir, do you mind, Im trying to get some shuteye... lol

So I gave him a 5 spot and told him to get something to eat..

I have a suspicion though, that he headed straight to the liquor store. Damn bums.

It was Squirrely but to be honest I played Burnside more often than the medal. It was shorter but still very tricky. I played St Andrews too, thats only about 6 or 7 miles from Carnoustie (if you have a boat) or about 25 miles by road.
