Contrary to what some may believe, I do listen to comments made on my courses and take them all into consideration. One of the comments I have been seeing in several of my latest releases is that the textures were not well received. Some of you may not appreciate me making so many new libraries - it probably seems like I make a new library every time I release a course, but that is not "quite" true - lol. The reason, however, that I do make these new libraries is that I am looking for the right texture set that I can use for that release and future ones as well. I also try to put sounds and structures in the library as well as the textures, so the user user does not need many custom libraries to play the course.

So please, tell me what you do or don't like about the textures I use in my courses, especially the most recent releases which used the April or May libraries. I am making an all new library with textures, sounds and objects, which will be called Common Library 09. Hopefully I will be able to use only this plus a pano library for future releases.

So here is your chance. Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve...Thanks for all the great courses and libraries you have shared with this community! You have amazing skills! For me personally,I like the rich darker green textures used on many courses..The contours and terrain work seem to come to life with those colors...I have added a picture of a Greg Norman course with amazing textures.Notice the sharp contrast between the fairways, sand, and tall fescue rough!I use the white cup lip, which adds to the beauty! Thanks again for all you do my friend!!

Yes Thank you so much Steve for all your libs.

I agree with PdLegend, I also love the horizontal and vertical mow lines, to go with the dark green grass.

I would also love to see a lib with roughs 1,2,and 3. To me, it would make spreading my points around so much easier. Being able to use the same lib would be gr8!! I just aint figured out how to use 1 texture for the entire course.

And I always love to see the new bridges, tee markers and etc, that you come up with, they are always good ones.

Thanks Professor..

Axe.

Thanks PdLegend, the new library I am working on definitely has more vibrant colors in the textures. I have been using a less saturated color scheme recently and it has had a sort of washed out look on some of the courses. It is tough to know what other people actually see since we all have different monitors that represent the colors differently.

Axe, can you be more specific? What do you mean by 3 cuts of rough? Do you mean a light rough, a medium rough and a deep rough that play in only that fashion no matter what the playing conditions are? Let me know. I can always add textures to do that which would match up the rest of the scheme.

Thanks, and keep them coming!

'think' he means the same texture duplicated but renamed, using MedRgh1, MedRgh2 etc as the case may be
so that they can be used in various places without running the point count up with 'too much' of the same texture in continuous/contiguous placement

I think you are right. I have added 2 alternate roughs that are the same as the regular rough. The reason being that if you have too many points throughout the course you are in danger of having transparent textures. Just be careful not to let this add too many points overall to the course or it may cause lag or crashes for some. As a genreal rule, for the latest version of the game, I always try to keep my total point count under 200k as much as possible. The lower the better.

Steve

by the way, here is a visual of what I have so far - there are structures, textures and 20 different (not screaming - lol) bird sounds as well -

Exactly Jb, that is what I meant. Thank you Steve, and you keep em coming to my friend. Those look gr8 Steve, now I will have some choices for my new course. That looks like one all around package, now were talking. To have that all in one lib is going to be gr8!!

I just hope you know, that I and many others really do appreciate your hard work and what you give to the community.

Peace

I'm new to all this, but I'll look at your textures this week, and might even start another side course using them. Those new textures you are working one look just like the color scheme I'm using or want right now on a course I'm trying to do. Plus, I look at the time anyone gives to this community as a serious good duty to all of us. Players, designers, site people, and whoever benefits from the time people give to bring us these things should be very thankful. It's not asking to much for this, I would think.
Thanks everyone for all that, and I'm not trying to kiss you know what, but I grew up with those morals that you appreciate things like this, and let people know it. I get you are to nice sometimes from people I get to know in real life, but that's just the way I am, and they find that out the longer they get to know me.........

All this talk of point count has got me freaking out again because I know might be walking into a wall again with what I'm trying to do with my 1st ever course I'm trying to make. Very frustrating I'm getting, and I have to learn what the CA going to allow so I can make cool course like y'all all do....

Goodnight everyone
Squirrely

I will bump this up once. If no more replies are made, I will probably release the library as is. That is, unless someone would like to test drive it first to tell me what they think. If so, PM me and I will send you a download link.

Hi Danut Golf

Do like your work alot...Also i agree with PdLegend...I like the dark green color.
In fact when I set up a match in the EASO Lobby I always set it to sunset and partly
cloudy which makes the green colors deeper and richer really very pretty to look at and
play. Also when I play golf for real I play later in the afternoon for the same reason.
It's such a beautyfull time to play (almost a religious experince...lol) Anywho keep
up the great work THANKS.

dawg8

P.S. Tobacco Road from would be a nice course to do for 08...the one for 07 looks great
can not remember who did that one but it would be nice for 08
Also a redo of Avandale North needs to be redone the 07 one looks alot better than the 08
one...love hitting those long scary shots over water...really !!!!

Steve,

I am generally not a user of the libraries(generally do one specific for the color of the course I am doing). I would like to make a suggestion for the non texture side of the library. I really do like the quality of the extras(benches and things like that). For my personal preference as a designer, I would like to see the structure objects in a separate library. This would allow it to be compiled with the LC2002, which will remove the shaders and eliminate the dark side of the objects that appear in 08 when the object is facing the bad lighting direction.

The one small opinion I have on the textures(I formed this after playing English Turn, so I can only speak to that set), I thought the green texture was a bit muted or blurry, and the rough blades rendered very dark, and the LOD setting for high LOD seemed a bit close as the blades got very thin and sparse and dark not far from the immediate vicinity of the camera. I am attaching a screenshot and I added another set on top from a different texture set showing the same type of textures from same angle etc to reference.

These comments are in no way meant to be critical in any way Steve. You do great work, and add alot of value to both the design community and the players with all of the excellent things you provide, which includes me personally :) . Just indicating my preferences on what I would chose if you were creating the library for me. I know what ever the end result is, it will be very valuable to the designers and great additions to the courses.

I personally like the library with the objects, textures and sounds together, but I can certainly make the objects available to you if you wish to compile them into a separate library with the 02LC. I have the 03 but that is the oldest I still have, since that is the year I started playing - lol. If you would like them or any I still have from previous libraries, let me know and I can package them up for you.

Steve,

That sounds awesome. I would love to be able to have the opportunity to build a library with the wonderful goodies. I will get a list of all of the great things to put together. I can really appreciate having it all together in a single library as well. If it were not for the improved lighting capabilities, I would have objects, textures, sounds, and panos all in one for simplicity as well. You for a list from me tomorrow. That will give me time to go through all of the goodies. Thanks again. Steve

Great thread by the way.....
I myself am getting some great info from these discussions about texture/libraries making threads, and the science of it all. This reminds me of going to college with all there is to learn, and all you good designers have degree's in course designing, as far as I'm concerned.....

Thanks for all the input, and special thanks to jmeier for furnishing the blade settings and to axe for helping me to test and making suggestions for improvements. I have uploaded the library to the site. Take care for now,

Thank you so much for the lib, Professor. It was very generous of you to ask us what we like, and then give it to us.

Appreciate the hard work and the generosity. Excellent looking lib!!!

Thank You

Axe.
