If you mean that there are long delays when going from hole to hole, this is a known bug in the game and you can find a workaround fix here:

Hi.... Custom courses are much tougher to render for your system, compared with the stock courses. The problem is your video card, you have a card with 128mb memory and you need a video card with at least 256 mb memory and it is recommended to have a card with 512 mb memory. Go for ATI or nvidia card, they are are performing very well on TW game. Also good idea to upgrade your RAM memory from 512 mb to 1024 mb or more. |

in the meantime - change game options to automatic - or at lkeast turn grass, tree detail etc to off or automatic, slide the bar full right to best performance
as gunny said - the video card is the main issue, system ram is a secondary one, i'd max out the ram depending on how many slots you have, 3x 512mb (or 1gb) or 2x1gb etc |

I have a P4 3 ghz too and experience the exact same problems. There is no pattern or magic bullet fix. I upgraded my RAM from 1mb to 2mb and it has not made any difference. I have a 7600GT Nvdia 256mb.
The jerky / choppy graphics have no pattern. I play in Worldfriends tournaments and over 3 rounds ( on separate days ) the custom course may run perfect one day, and choppy the next.
The scary part is after fooling with all many of graphics settings I do not believe they make any difference at all. I have played smooth at full graphics one day, then choppy, so reduced setting to minimum to no affect.
The only thing that works is quitting and start again, Deleting the CLS file appears to work..sometimes. |

Hi.... A 256mb graphics card is the minimum requirement to play TW08 custom courses, so it is possible not all custom courses will play perfect. Also good idea you have enough free space on the harddisk where you installed TW08 game ( usually C or D drive ). You need at least 400-500 mb free space. |

Someone recently taught me how to speed up game play in TW08. If your computers hardware is strong, then try this: Close Tiger Woods 08 if its running. 1. Go to my documents/ Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08/ career/ players and find your player folder 2. Go into that folder then into the confidence folder. 3. You will see two files: holetype.tcn and shottype.tcn. The holetype.tcn should be 4kb. 4. If not, this is the problem and to fix this, delete this file. 5. Restart TW08 and choose set a custom game with your golfer. 6. Take 1 shot and then close Tiger Woods. 7. Go back to the confidence folder and you should now see the holetype.tcn file at the size of 4 kb. 8. Right click on this file and choose properties. 9. Look at the bottom of the properties panel and at the bottom click on read only. 10. Click apply and close
Thats it. This should end any slowdowns, especially the custom courses. Online play and custom games will now run fast and smooth. Of course, and again, if your system doesnt have a healthy processor or video card, this isnt going to be much help.

I think I have found something that fixes choppy or jerky slow graphics, although it is a pain.
This workaround is for choppy moving graphics, for example when you preview the ball flight it moves in slow jerks. The workaround is not for delays between holes, that is a separate issue.
If after pressing the E key you know the hole is going to be jerky/choppy pain simply ALT - TAB to the desktop, and ALT - TAB back to TW again. I do not know why but the whole hole will play fine now and ball flight and previews will be normal speed. You may have to ALT- TAB every hole on some larger custom courses, but it is a small price to pay to have a playable hole. |

easier to adjust your graphic settings to auto or lower the grass and tree detail settings - those 2 are the usual culprits because of the graphic rendering/display they require
if that doesnt help, then likely time for new video card, more RAM, or a new PC :(;
between hole slowness is also due to your video card/system - takes a while to pre-render the upcoming graphics with a less powerful system - so adjusting the graphics doesnt help, better hardware does |

Thanks for taking the time to reply, but after playing at least 50 custom courses over 3 rounds each I can honestly say that the graphic settings do not make any difference in my case.
I will admit that my PC is at the elderly end, like myself. |

Following a few threads I have finally found a better solution.
I downloaded the NVIDIA Omega Drivers, these are not an official NVIDIA product, although based on them.
The Omega drivers have not been updated for a while either, but my official Nvidia driver was older.
Probably not for the faint hearted as I expected something to go wrong, instead everything runs smooth and TW08 has a new lease of life, all custom courses run smooth as silk, even lag times between holes has been cut.
Lastly you may say why not simply update to the latest Nvidia release, well i did that and they did not like my older PC and refused to run in high resolution. The solution on the Nvidia website was to disable certain parameters in BIOS, my motherboard does not have these in the first place.
While the solution worked for me, please if you do venture this way make sure you have a system restore point. |
