hi everyone:

I had to recently reinstall my operating system due to a crash and since i lost my disc I had to go buy a new Windows XP. The only way this can be done these days I guess is to buy an upgrade of some sort so I bought another 80G harddrive and got rid of the other one. I am up and running again of course. I installed all the drivers for my video card, and have free ram XP and have tried a program called Speed It Up and my computer still runs choppy in the Tiger Woods08 game. I shut down programs in the task manager and I do run skype when I play to talk with the other players but have the old 3.0.1.015 version of it as the new version makes my game nearly stand still. Is there a program I can download that may pick the speed up on this ol machine? It is nearly 5 years old but has the Windows SP3, Intel Pentium 4 3.00GHz, 2.5G RAM and Nvidia GEForce 6200 video card. Thanks for any help all.

Hey Whiff...

There are a few things you can do to improve system performance...but I would avoid downloading any of the fixes as it can really lead to problems later.... (;been there/done that)

Heres something to try (;but you will loose some of the appearance bells and whistles)animations with the windows and such...
(;it can be reversed very easily)

right click My Computer / Properties / Advanced tab / Performance-Settings / Visual Effects tab / Adjust for Best Performance
(;same window) Advanced tab / **make sure that Processor Scheduling and Memory Usage have Programs) ticked.

(;same window) Virtual Memory- this should say about 3500 with 2.5G of RAM...Hit Change
Highlight your drive up top and hit Custom Size below...Now set both to the recommended (;bottom part of window) and hit Set
(;you will have to reboot, the pagefile can be a real bummer, if the initial(;min) and max are the same, it doesnt have to think about how much it wants..this will help speed things up a little....And I promise you it will hurt nothing.. Ill help you set it back if you dont like it) :)

Now just hit Apply when available...Then reopen and check to make sure it took it(;it may reboot)if so, just reopen after restart.. :)

If this doesnt do it for you.... PM me and I will help you further...

skype is a major memory hog and with your old video card you are going to have problems, there are other programs you can use in place of skype and $50-$100 would get you a much better video card.

thanks for the help.. i'll go try that to see if it works. The video card is only 3 months old Carnoustie although I do know it is the bare minimum needed to play. Was playing using skype before the crash and it worked good, didnt have this problem with it, but i really do appreciate your help man. Thank you so much.

believe i found the problem in the BIOS settings for video configuration. was set at only 32MB and is a 256MB card. Seems to have fixed problem. Now if i could just use some of the video settings in game without chopping it up.. lol.. would love to see the course life and grass and tree details, but if i remember right, this is the bare minumum video card that i have and will have to wait for money to fall before i get a bigger one. Just thought I'd let ya know where i got help to go look. Thanks for all the help fellas, appreciated it greatly.

and you know I didn't realize how much diff it makes with a 512...and more RAM.. that grass looks COOL..

don't really see any reason skype would be doing that. Processor and RAM are well within what it requires, unless you are making video calls... You have the newest release? 4.0.0.206 ?

Hey Whiff..

When you say Skype is choppy, do you mean your voice or theirs.. ?

Whiff...... in what configuration do you have 2.5 Gigs of RAM? I ask , because if you mixed RAM, the memory will run at the lowest available speed.
