I got the itch to play Bethpage Black this weekend and I was wondering if I can install that course on my TW2008 directory? I have all the legal copies all the way back to 99 but I'd just like to play BPB, Reflection Bay, The K Club, etc.....
Is this possible or do I need to install each and every game again?

Some of the courses can be easily accessed directly from the CD or DVD just by browsing (look for the Courses folder on the CD or DVD). Some of the courses are bundled in a large CAB file on the disc. You should be able to open the CAB file with either WinZip or a similar program that can handle zip files.
I wouldn't recommend installing any stock courses further back than TW2006. Ones older than that may install properly, but due to changes to the game engine over time those courses may crash back to the desktop when you try to play them. Even the TW2006 ones aren't going to look quite right due to other lighting changes that were made between 06 and 07.
The easiest way to install these once you find them is to copy the folder from the CD or DVD to your desktop, right click on the folder, select Send To...Compressed Folder and create a zip file. Once the zip file is created on your desktop, you can delete the course folder. Then install the zip with TW Caddie into TW08.

I have Bethpage, Pasitempo, Pinnacle at Troon North, Kapalua and Reflection Bay running in TW08 and they all play and look very good. There is a slight tonal difference in the texures, planting and structures but you can get them pretty close to 08 quality by adjusting your ingame graphics options ie gamma RGB etc. and playing around with shader levels.
You may have some long delay times between holes with Reflection bay (;7,8,9) where there is a large amount of water.
Troon North has some very luminous green cactus plants which you cant do anything about.
One thing i had to do once installed was to delete all the contents of the 06 cls folders and replace with stock 08 cls.tbfs in order for the galleries to show up.
I have attached simple 08 style splash screens for these courses.
I leave the logos as is (;round) so i can identify which are 06 courses when selecting in game. |
