Why? Well for me, owning a computer is about more than gaming. I did not want to build my own this time (been there done that). So I went looking for a bargain and plenty of power. I also think that 64 bit is the future of computing, and if I am investing $1000 in a machine I want it to be the machine of the near future, not the soon-to-be-obsolete 32 past. I picked up an HP Media center with Nvidia 9300, AMD quad, and 5gb ram. XP is pretty much gone from the market at this point if you are buying off-the-shelf. I can play TW08 with all settings wide open and smooth. The only hiccup I have had is having to use Virtual Machine to compile courses. I'm about medium tech level and had no real problems figuring VM out.
A good portion of the Vista 64 annoyances are really just Vista, not the 64 part; and the tweaks are there to fix most of those.
I might be happier with a badass late gen XP 32 bit machine, but that's pretty much what I had before (dead mobo). Those of you running these machines may find spare parts and upgrades running a little thin. I have asked Santa to bring me one oaf the last PCI / ATA mobo that will bring my xp machine back to life. I only did this because I had a lot invested in evolved mods to that home-build and I'm a bit sentimental about it. But my new machine blows it away, so it will likely end up as a file back-up machine/server. |

I didn't really mean to say that Vista is the future, just the 64 part. If I'd had a choice I'd have taken XP 64. |

doh, sorry. To answer the original Q: Here's how I did it...
1. Go to utilities and get the 64-bit beta version of caddy 08 and install.
2. Before running caddy, go to the program folder and right-click the program exe file. Go the properties and select the Compatibility tab. Under priveledges, check "Run as Administrator". This should get the caddy running, if that is where you are stuck. Hope this helps. |

I have had absolutely ZERO issues with Vista, however I do recognize there are legions of users who don't like it for whatever reason. My understanding is that Windows 7 will be the OS that Vista should have been with better performance and much improved stability using roughly half the memory footprint. |
