Hi, I am Mark from Kentucky. I'm 46 years old. I play 07 and 08, mostly 07. I have enjoyed the downloads, and I am studying up on how to build courses. I do CAD for a living so I think I have a slight running start.

My personal rule for putting: If it looks straight, shoot it straight- 7 times out of 10, itll go in. However if there is any contour at all- screw it, itll be a 2 putt Par :D

Welcome , Mark. There is a topic on the main page for course design tutorials that are excellent ( if you haven't found them, already......).

Thanks for the encouragement. I am taking it slow, reading every page of the CA manual for starters. I have been studying aerials of some local courses. I know how to read a topo if I can locate one, but I am leaning toward fantasy or loosely-based-on-real for my first attempt.

Fantasy is definitely the best way to start. It helps familiarize you with the program.
