Downloads were NOT turned off. You can still download files. However, MyZip WAS turned off and will remain off for a while.
For the past several months, the community has not made enough donations to cover the server bill. Therefore it has been coming out of the admins pocket to pay the bill. We want to continue to give people the best place to download courses, but we cannot continue to do so without people helping. Those who donate to the site will get MyZip added back to their accounts.
This is the challenge that was put forth by TruBluMich yesterday:
For the last 2 months I have had to pay for over 50% of the server out of my own pocket. SO heres my challenge to all of the members. I am at a crucial point right now in the programming stages of the new site, do I or dont I want to implement memberships for some of the features on this site. My answer is no, this site has been completely free for its members as well as guests for the last 8 years.
CHALLENGE: I have made a deal with the server company if we pay 6 months up front they will give us a free month. Thats a free money no matter where you live. The cost of running this server is $309 for the server bill and another $75 dollars (;avg) a month for software licensing and domain name registrations. Thats $384 dollars a month, so we need to raise $2,304. Until we reach our goal myZIP will be turned off. I will be adding a way for members to track where we are at very soon.
REWARD: No memberships or limited access to the new site. I will turn the bandwidth up on the server to the full 100 MB we have available. Remove these annoying donate ads. Plus anyone who donates will have first access to the new site when its ready. THE BIGGEST REWARD IS KEEPING THIS SITE RUNNING. |
