hi all:
Compiled a course I've been working on, and have the optimizations down to 0% and tried to run it in the game, and in the middle of loading, it quit and I got an error message that TW08 had encountered a problem and needed to shut down. Any ideas of what I try next? I checked all libraries in use and seem to have no problems with then anywhere else. Kinda stumped here. Thanks for any help.

Maybe a bit more information. This course was incorporated from the course architect used in PGA2000. Of course I had to change all vegetations and objects. Dont know if this will help anyone come up with the answer as to what I need to do. Was wondering if the file is too big also. I notice that most courses that come out here are under 10M in size. This thing in the architect is itself is around 30M. There something there that I need to do? Hope someone has some answers. Thanks.

30MB seems way to large. My largest ever was 17MB and it would put a good starin on most computers. What is the point count, plant count, and structure count? |

i see the file size is down to 18.3M now and the point count is 167702. Objects are at 5404 and structures are at 40. I know the file will shrink when compressed. Not sure that makes any difference or not. I am very interested in getting some of the courses I created over there over here if possible. Thanks for you response and help.

those numbers are reasonable but 18mb for a tcr file is certainly on the high end
10-16mb seems average for a completed course file
compression doesn't do anything to the original file, it just makes the resulting file smaller - when installed, the tcr is still the same size as when you started
strongly suggest you have it tested by others along the way especially for slope/roll/playability on very dry greens and with an eye for the OH (overhead) maps describing the holes - expert level players don't have the 'look ahead' E key and rely on the OH a great deal

maybe thats my problem.. its saving as a .tca file not a .tcr?? Another thing that I noticed. When I move my camera out to the edge of the architect file, I cant see the panorama I'm supposed to have. Any suggestions there? I selected the Fjord Mid library panorama and it isnt there (using camera anyway). Sorry to be a pain all.

the tca (architect file) seems to be a bit larger than the compiled tcr file but not by much
should save it as the architect (tca) file each time (many designers save it using slightly different names, ie versions - easier to go back to what works if something gets changed that doesn't work)
then compile it, making the tcr file to install into the game for testing etc make sure lighting is unchecked in the compile screen
you won't see the pano in the Architect only visible once the course is compiled and installed into the game
wonderful choice of pano by the way :) |
