Hoping someone can shed some light on a strange problem that has occured after buying and hooking up a Dell 19" WS monitor.

Neither TW07 or TW08 would load, so uninstalled both & set about re-installing. In both instances, I got an "Installation cannot continue, as TW07/08 requires Direct X 9.0c or higher to be installed".

I have the July release of Dirext X 9 installed...ran it through its hoops via Direct X diagnostic tool, and its fine!

Completely bamboozled here, so any advice would be appreciated.

Running XP Pro, SP3 through a rather dated GeForce FX5700..yeah, I know, but both have been running smoothly prior to the monitor switch. Help!!

Of course switching monitors has nothing to do with it. So then why would your games suddenly not load? Must be a problem with your CPU, not just Direct X. Maybe a virus?

Paddy, try this. Create a Restore Point. Uninstall SP3 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950249), and reboot. Open DxDiag in RUN to see if DX9c is still installed. Install the game and then set M$ Automatic Updates to manual to prevent the update from being installed without your permission.

Yeah, SP3 had crossed my mind, Otto...given me no probs to date, and both games have been running nicely on it for a couple of months..but you never know.

Have a couple of other games installed that run without probs, so not convinced it is actually a Direct X problem...will follow your suggestion regardless, and let you know, mate.

@Bangus:

Could not, myself, see how it could be connected to the new monitor, but as it was the only change to the configuration in months, felt I should mention it.

Also very much doubt its a virus, as I'm protected to the hilt, and only did full system scans with Kaspersky 2009, Malwarebytes & Super Antispyware Pro yesterday morning (my time)..its clean.

Suspect it will end up being the usual MS fix..."Format c:\" :-(

Thanks for the input Carnoustie, but Compatability Mode doesnt fix what turns out to be, after extensive Googling, a fairly well known problem. Lots of angry puppies on various Forums out there, including the various EA Boards....predictably enough, the response from EA, on the latter, has been pretty much zero.

Both my copies (;07 & 08) are legally owned retail copies, played on the same config for 2 years, so never really saw it as a genuine Direct X prob, given that Half Life 2 runs flawlessly.

My temporary solution has been to create ISO images of both games, strip out the Direct X folders...and burn the modified ISOs. Both games run, though I had to mount 08, as Id run out of disks (;Thanks,kids!!).

Neither of these games were particularly cheap down here, and having to go through this BS has reinforced my already low opinion of EA Sports treatment of their paying customers.
Beta releases maquerading as retail products, for mine. Still, not gonna be a prob with TW09, eh??

Thanks to everybody for the assists..cheers.
