As a golfer who has known this course for far too many years I downloaded the TW version of one of the UKs finest courses. I was looking forward to enjoying a round on the Burma Road but the truth hit me after playing the first and then standing on the tee at the second that this was nothing like Wentworth and I decided to retire to the clubhouse. I could not find anywhere else on the forum to express my views on this version of this great course and hope that posting my views here are acceptable. |

Alan,
Knowing Steve Danut, I would assume that a ton of effort went into making the course. I would say sometimes information on some courses is hard to get and a lot of guesswork goes into designing. You know how hard designing courses can be :) Im sure Steve would appreciate any feedback you would be willing to share with him. I also think he would kindly take any constructive criticism.

| Your remarks are not only allowed, theyre welcome. Steve has retired from design, as of this year...... and he remains one of the greats of course design. That said, I doubt hes ever seen the course. He lives in the mid-west USA, and he had to rely on overhead geographic shots to reproduce the course. Frankly, it might have been a huge help to have a local to guide him in reproducing the course, but thats very tricky over the internet. Still, my guess is that the course is worth a look, even if it doesnt reproduce the course you know. |

Hi all,
Just stopped in to see what I have been missing - lol. First, I am from the West Coast - Portland, Oregon to be exact. Second, I have never seen the course and only did it as a favor to a club mate who is from the UK. I could be wrong, but I thought I mentioned in the course notes that I was going a lot by guesswork on the course. Sorry if it offended anyone.
I have moved over to Custom Play Golf 2. I find it an invigorating, yet tough, game to play. I also find that the course designer is much improved over any other I have used, but has a much larger learning curve. It may not be the game for everyone, nor am I trying to lure any away from Tiger Woods.
Take care all. |

Looking at my post again this morning I appear to have been harsh to Steve. That is not the way I intended it to seem. It was the total disappointment at not seeing the Wentworth course as it really is. I have been an admirer of Steves courses for many years and having designed courses myself appreciate the many hours that can be put in to designing courses. I only ever attempted to do a real course once - Carnoustie for PGA Chapionship 2000 - and after all the time spent on that course useing photos and what knowledge I could recall from playing the course I decided to stay with my own designs after that. |

Hi Alan. As a huge fan of British Isles links courses, I remember your name and that course well. Nice to see Alan Toft pop up on a cyber golf forum brings back memories!
I know your intent was to leave impressions for Steve, no problem there. Something though that I keep in mind whenever I download a course from here: regardless of the quality, Im always just thankful that I have the opportunity to try them out, and that these designers choose to share their work with the rest of us! :) Take care. |
