Not happy to hear that new and learning golfers like me will not be able to continue our progress in the 09 season. So what does that mean for us? When will we be booted off the online server? And which of the remaining platforms provides for an enjoyable/challenging online experience...?

No worries...
EA online server for TW08 should be online for at least 15 months.

It is also possible to run and set up a server to play TW08 online tourneys without Ea sports servers. So basic it is possible to play online tournaments without EASO.
