Hi all.. I used to play Links 2k3 for a very long time. Still an active member of a club, but i dont really play much online because that game requires a lot of resources in order for the game to run smoothly. I just installed TW 08 on my laptop and i was amzed on how smooth the game runs. But, coming from a diferent game, I wonder what are the main diferences between Tiger Woods 2008 and Links 2003. If any one of you had played Links 2k3 and now plays TW 08 please give me some basic info. Courses? Can i get new courses and do the have to be special for the 08 version? Player... where and how to download. Any posibility to convert Links 2k3 courses to TW 08? Links courses come in *.CRZ format TW08 comes out every year, can 2 players play the game one with the 08 version and the other with a previous version? Besides EA Sports site, is ther another place to play online?
Thanks for the help |

Links and TW are 2 completely different games. There are a few differences to be aware of. First, TW is a completely 3D game. All objects in the game are 3 dimensional. Second, courses install differently than in Links. With Links, everything was compiled into one large file where all you needed to do was place the file in the correct location on your hard drive. TW requires you to install files to get courses into the game. With TW, files are broken into 2 categories, courses and libraries. Each course file has a certain number of required libraries that must be installed in order for the course to play. The designers did this so textures, objects, etc. could be used over and over again without you having to redownload them. Initially there will be a lot of downloading because you dont have the libraries needed for courses, but over time you will find you have to download less and less since you will already have the libraries. One feature you will find on this website is something called MyLibraries. When you go to a course download page you will see the download link for the course on the left and the required libraries on the right, all with red Xs beside them. As you download a library, our system will change the X to a check so you can keep track of the libraries you have already downloaded.
For TW08, you will need to download a program to install your courses and libraries. In the Utilities section of our site, look for the program TW Caddy 08. This is a custom built installed created by one of our site admins to handle installing courses and libraries. There is a full reference guide with it that explains how to install the files.
Links courses cannot be converted for play in TW.
EASO is the main place to play online, however you can also play IP-IP games with TW.
TW08 is the last of the PC versions for right now. EA has confirmed that there will not be a TW09. |

| Being an old Linkster from conception, Jeff has pointed out the obvious differences to a tee. When I first started playing the TW platform several years ago, I have to admit that it took me awhile to get used to the overall appearance of the courses. As you well know playing the Links platform, the APCD is capable of some amazing seam blending and muted beautiful texture work. If you do not care about moving trees, grasses, clouds and water textures then you will probably always prefer Links to anything else. Because the APCD is basically a 2D rendering program, it is a lot easier to achieve those very natural looking scenes as opposed to a 3D rendering process. Many more challenges one is confronted with in a 3D environment, point count in the rendition just to mention one. I now affectionately refer to Links as postcard golf. Beautiful scenes but unfortunately little life. It is awfully hard for me to go back to that environment on a regular basis. I do from time to time only because of the games great interface allowing you to create a multitude of custom tournaments. Unfortunately this is the one feature that the TW game is without. |
