Here is a little food for thought. I had been a Linkster from almost its infancy, and finally moved over to the TW Community because the Links game wasnt going anywhere and computer technology was passing it by. After moving to TW, I was almost astonished to find that there existed a kind of Hatfield and McCoy atmosphere between the two golfing communities. I am not quite sure why this is. Here is the point. The Links players are experiencing issues within the game now because of the newer express video cards as well as the inability of running at higher resoloutions for people with widescreen monitors. Patches are in the works but I am sure these will not resolve a lot of the problems. There has even been talk about purchasing the rights to the game from the company that aquired it from Microsoft a couple of years back. They for some reason show little interest in revamping this game for the PC Community. On this side of the fence we are all too aware that the TW platform is steadily seperating itself from the PC players and their wants and needs, and is steadfastly addressing the console player market. The interesting thing is that both golfing communities are striving for similar goals. To have a simulation that provides a realistic golf experience for the player, as well as providing the best tools to the designers so that they are able to showcase their great creations in the best possible way. I think both sides are fully aware that both platforms would be greatly deminished were it not for our custom design architects. There is a tremendous amount of talent on both sides of the fence here. Would it not make sense to do the following. Instead of alienating ourselves from one another, lets all put our heads together and maybe design a great golf simulation that would be beneficial as well as enjoyable for all of us who still believe that golf for the PC is the only way to go. I am not as naive as to think that this would not be a considerable financial undertaking. I also believe however, there are enough people in both communities that would financially support this endeavor in order to make it a reality.

Jurgie,

The reality of it, is a project like this would be a massive undertaking, for something like this you are going to need to create a company. Than you are going to need to hire top level graphic designers, advanced computer programmers, a staff, production team, ect. You are going to need a solid business plan, target markets, sale forecasts. When you use PGA tour players and Real courses there are royalty fees to be paid. The custom designers for the Links and TW, are using a compiler program, they are not programming the motions and reaction of the golfer on the screen. My question is what are you trying to achieve on this project, what is your goal?

If I had the capital, resources and had interest in this, I would do something like this: I would go after and hire the actual programmers of the links and tiger woods game, giving them some kind of stock in the company. Than draw out a massive plan on how the game would run and work. Or better yet, just buy out the Tiger Woods PC platform from EA, than hire all of their programmers fix and fine-tune some of the features in the game. That is just my thoughts on this.

Yes, your points are well taken Hyno. This would be a monumental task. I also know that this is a lot of wishfull thinking on my part. I guess I just want somebody to create something with the PC golfer in mind. It just seems to me that with all the new generated interest in the game of golf, largely due to guys like Tiger and some of the other great talent on the horizon, that someone would realize the market possibilities, and present us with something we could all be happy with.
