I helped to create a course known as the Oddity (Doom) course for tw07 and I was wondering, since none of us uploaded it anywhere but here how it happened to appear on the tigerwoodscommunity.net website which i am not even a member of.
I am unfamiliar with this process and website afilliations so I was just wondering how this happened.
Also, I was wondering about the copyright policies on the courses released on this site (relating to mine).
Just wondering, I wont complain no matter what the answer is, I just need an explanation. |

from this sites terms of use :
TWC therefore are within their rights to host courses on their servers for their members use and it makes sense really for both sites to be hosting the same courses, just makes life easier, we work on the principle that if designers are happy to have their courses available for download by anyone then the hosting site is really irrelevant. |

| Interesting. I have had some disagreements with the folks at TWC, resulting in my being banned from the site. No skin off my back, but having read this post I checked the TWC site and noticed none of my courses, but several of my libraries. Copyright seems to have been lost somewhere along the way, as my name doesnt appear anywhere on the DL page, as far as I can tell. Farm Library by Maggie, it says. I was pretty sure that I was the one who created it. I dont mind people hosting my stuff, even if they think they dont like me, but Id like to see credit where its due. |

Jimi, I am the UPLOADER, you are the designer. I 100% agree that is confusing and a few weeks ago I made an account named TWCUPload to stop confusion in the future. Trust me I DONT want credit for your stuff or anyones. I only upload your libraries, Jimi if another designers uses them if not I dont need them on the site. I have asked Tazz to recode this but he has been busy with other stuff.
As a side note you cant copyright any of your work as per the agreement with EA when you create a course.
QR, your course has been removed form TWC.
Anyone not wanting their course on TWC just needs to ask. We have gladly done this in the past for others that request it. Trust me, no bandwidth off my back...

as Rob suggests - sites try to make the course/library offerings available so that players can access them an ddesigners get their courses used

| Like I said, I have no problem with that whatsoever. I only would like to see my name attached when I see one of my designs posted somewhere. Not really a big thing to ask, I believe. The reason i upload the stuff is because I want other people to enjoy it. But some credit would be nice. |

Funny, youre listed as the creator, but still you keep saying it doesnt matter, you just want credit?
Just how much credit do you want? I dont see anyone thanking me, and I solved the problem for making structures for Tiger Woods in Gmax and 3D studio max. |

this is all very interesting,
I almost feel like Ive opened a can of worms.
On the note of Jimi, the reason his name (no matter which one hes going by architect wise) needs to be on the courses is not just for recognition, but is also good for relating the enjoyer of such courses to other courses made by the same person, thus both the architect and the downloader are benefitted, everyone ends up happier.
I feel now like I am a lot more familiar with this situation now and I dont mind the policies this site has. feel free to send these courses Ive helped to make to anyone and everyone wholl enjoy them. |

I guess what i dont undertand is if jimi is banned from TWC,why are they even uploading his libs.
to begin with? Surely if someone needs his libs. they can get it here...seems like a double standard to me. |

JB, I just did that and what you just said is true as far as the courses go, but not the libraries. Not as yet anyway.

I can gladly not upload anything of JImis as I said no skin off my back. He and the former file manager on TWC had it out over Jimis inability to follow said managers way of uploading files.
As I said I have gladly NOT uploaded for certain people that asked for their stuff not to be on TWC and that is a policy I will gladly uphold... I love saving bandwidth trust me.. less money out of pocket. I have followed designers wishes for no comments on their courses to the point of it being a job.. but no sweat. We are there to make the designers happy.
Thanks for your concern and anyone who doesnt want their files on TWC just PM me, I will happily remove your files.
But dont you dare come seeking advise on TWC then trash us for hosting a file.. speaking of double standards..

It seems that about 4 - 5 times a year an argument that started at TWC carries over here. Ive said it before and Ill say it again. I DONT WANT TO READ ABOUT IT!
from this point forward TWC staff members please send us a PM with the post and we will remove it as we see fit, and then send you should send that member a PM with your email address to continue the discussion.
To those who wish to complain about how and what TWC does with THEIR site please be warned your post will go on deaf ears, and the staff here will delete the posts as soon as it is noticed. Continuing to come here and complain about policies and or site moderation at any other site will result in a Ban from OUR site.
This conversation didnt warrant this response, but really it annoys me to no end to read about conflicts that started on another site.
- ANSWER ABOUT COPYRIGHT -
As for courses appearing at TWC that you uploaded here...our Terms of use were set up to avoid a problem that appeared when Course Source launched back in 2001. We were not going to be like that other site (and no Im not talking about TWC) who tried to tell us that something that you freely provided to them could only be hosted at their site but any files uploaded to us could be provided at their site.
So in our terms we clearing say that any file you are uploading is considered free of copyright, which MEANS that if you upload a course to us that you waive the right to claim copyright infringement, WHICH BY THE WAY does not apply to other sites hosting your files. NOW if you placed a Terms of Use file with your course that says this file may not be redistributed without my permission, then if you could get pass the fact of violating EAs EULA then and only then would you have a argument.
- CONCLUSION -
Im not directing this at anyone or any site, Im answering a question...Without TWC and its members this game would not be what it is today. Just as Im sure they would say the same about us. TWC is set up more as a gathering place for TW players, by adding value to the game through courses, libraries, tutorials and game add-ons and most of all thier knowledgable members, more of an all in one place for players who want A LOT more from the game. We do not want to copy what they have done already, so we focus on creating a more user rich content of courses, something that gives players all the information they need about a file before downloading it. Essentially we are mostly a Download Site first and forum second.
Both sites have their niches and collectively serve all the needs of the TW online players. |
