Hi folks,
Just played my first two hours on TW08. Thought Id share 1st impressions.......
Have just created my hack player - always start off this way to get into the sim.
1) Not going to add to the lack of CA bizz - lots been said there already, and as many folk have said around here, watch this space.......Ill just add that Im sure most of us really appreciate the work being done to solve this.
2) Graphics - early days yet but I dont see a huge difference. Plays ok though - I dont have the highest spec pc, but there dont seem to be any serious glitches as yet.
3) Installation took absolutely ages!!!!!!!!!! Particularly at around 45% where the commentary files were being installed. DVD chunked around and seemed to take forever - installation took nearly 40mins!!!!
4) Interface - after all the issues raised here and elsewhere, I thought the interface would be worse than it really is imho. The biggest issue for me is Im always dragging the mouse down to where the distance info for my club selection USED to be!! Yardage info in the middle of the screen is gimmicky but tolerable.
5) Biggest gripe so far - scorecard detail. Only played Westchester so far as its my home course, but the scorecard is dreadful!! Hole 5 - 154yds, Par 5!! Hole 6 - 462yds, par 3 15th - par 5 at 151yds. Really....
Very early days - overall feelings are that there are some novelties, a lot of similarities, one or two startling clangers, but enjoyable none the less. |

Anyone know how to change the water settings??
Graphically things were better than I originally thought - lot of low lying mist at Westchester!!!!!
Played Boston now, and that looks really nice. Water is a bit bland though, and I cant see any water settings in the option panel. Anyone sussed this?? |

| Thanks loveclose for your comments about the slow installation of TW08. I was going to take the dvd back to the shop tomorrow as I thought the dvd was faulty and I had given up on it. All is okay now. |

No probs - glad it wasnt just me! I cant remember installing a game and having to wait soooo long!!
Having played for a day and a half or so now, its getting better every time I play. Harbour Town revamp is good, and the National looks more realistic perhaps - rough looks better. Water effects now Ive got them turned on are excellent.
Only course that hasnt made me go wow is Firestone - looked a bit bland but then Ive only been on it once. Having a home course in Westchester made travelling to Firestone expensive....!! |

Certainly the case if you have created a custom golfer and have started life as a hack.
Trajectory is flatter, and with any approach shot that has any kind of upward hill involved, you are going to struggle. Things definitely improve when you start getting the old attributes higher.
I havent used any player other than the one Ive created myself, so cant say if the fall short problem exists with full professional players. Ill try it.....
Sorry if this is an obvious reply..... |
