| Im having trouble in ca06 compiling with tree lighting turned on, checked... it crashes to desktop... I thought this would just be a small cosmetic hit to my courses but there is a problem in the rendering of trees on the course. It seems that some people that play the course crash to desktop, this problem only appears if I have trees on the course. Something with the trees is causing the crashes... any ideas? |

Sounds like you have to many trees either in a few spots on the course or in general. Make sure you are using trees from only the 06 or 07 stock libs also.

I tried to compile with tree lighting turned one with only one tree on the course it crashed ca to desktop... do you think just putting out sparse trees will help... I have no where near the amount of trees as are on most courses |

It also could be the case that you have used the same tree from different libraries, which will cause an issue.
You can see if thats the case by holding the ctrl button and then double-clicking on a tree to see if all of the trees of that type have been highlighted. You can use that same method to change trees all at once by right-clicking and changing thru properties. |

| something simular to that was my first thought so I went through the course and made sure everything was coming from only one lib... took up everything but course and trees and had them all coming from pebble beach 2007... gp helped me test and without trees no problem, with trees even only one type he crashed twice... I have to get him to test for me cause I dont crash when I play it |

| Try removing ALL trees and then compile with tree lighting turned on and see if you have crash issues. If so, then the problem is not with the trees. How many points are in the course? If too large a number, then tree lighting may be causing too much for the CA to handle. Total number of points needs to be less than approx 200k. |

Also you need to make sure that you have more than 3 diff types of trees I believe it is. If you use even 1 tree then you have to also use 2 other types of trees as well.
No trees is fine but if you add them there has to be a variety of 3 or more diff. types. This is probably the cause of the crash if you are just using 1 tree to test. |

I can do it without trees on the course its only when I put trees down that I cant compile with tree lighting... it dont matter how many trees... 3 different trees are on my course, if I do only three or all it dont matter... question do you have to use tree lighting to make the course able to play on all machines and look good?
something is wrong with my ca I believe as it relates to tree lighting... big was able to compile a course with three trees on it without problem... I try the same file he compiled and crash. its amazingly frustrating. There was a small problem in my libs but when fixed it made no difference on my problem
the pts are about 51k and I dont actually have that many trees on the course just sparse trees mixing three from the same lib.
The final version of my course is complete... only thing stopping me from finishing is being able to compile it. |

I finally finished the course and it is submitted now
It was a combination of things that was wrong, but mainly one thing that was stopping me cold.
WINDOWS VISTA
CA06 cant run under windows vista good... I can make a course, design it, even test it with tree lighting cut off... but if I want to finish it I have to transfer the file to another computer running XP to do the final compile... I took my course transferred it to my wifes pc, running xp, compiled without a problem, tested it on her pc, my pc, my bros pc, and my dads pc... and had a friend online test it... each computer varied from high to low end machines running different configurations, all played the course with no problems.
Add that to your knowledge bags... if ca is working right besides compiling it might be a vista issue |
