In 1953, Ben Hogan played in 3 majors and won all of them. What courses did he play ? In honor of that, I will release all of them in 07.

That just leaves Augusta then, you have already released Oakmont (US Open) and Carnoustie (British Open).
This was the great mans one and only appearance in the British Open, and as it was played the same week as the PGA he couldnt play that or hed probably have won that too !!
Another useless fact was that the British Open was played with different size balls in them days and Ben practiced for 2 weeks solid before the event to get the feel of the larger ball. |

The British ball was at 1.62 actually smaller than the ball used in the US which was 1.68.
When I first stated playing golf in the early 70s the 1.62 was in common use. |

Guys what is the deal with the small ball ? Is it still used in the UK.
Yea Hogan at Carnoustie is an amazing story, more than likely my fav one. The guy shows up, uses a different ball. Never Played in the British Open. Playing what I think is the hardest course in the world. And he wins !! But dont forget nobody could control the ball like Ben, so even on a course like Carnoustie, I think he is even stronger, cause he doesnt mis hit a lot of shots. But Changing golf ball is very hard to do and his legs were bad. The Scots called him the Wee-Ice-Man.....The Jean Van DeVelde one, is still the craziest thing I ever saw. I watched that over an over doing the remake of the course. Everytime you are liked glued to the TV, cause it is so crazie.
I was not going to release Augusta, cause I think the 07 trees on it looks really dark, and also Kens Course is pretty good. I overplanted the course, which who knows if there would be issues. At the same time I was playing it back in Dec, on a HDTV, and was like wow this is pretty cool. The course for sure has been changed since the last release. It is just more detailed than the one before. This was done last year. It is just like picking up the 2 large trees that sit at the end of 14. Or the row of planted pine trees down 11. These stupid details that no one will pick up. I cant think of all of them. Finally #12 is just awesome. The bank came out perfect !! It was so neat , that I tried to do it again on 13. It came out ok. These banks for me, have been impossible to do over the years, they never turned out right. It was just luck. I dont know about Kens Feelings on this. I still think holes 10,11,12 and 13 are the single hardest 4 holes to build on any course for this game. At least for me it has been. Ken did a really good job on 11-12 and 13.
I thought about it. When in golf have the 1st Three Majors been played on the same courses in the same year. This is rare, cause back in 1953, they played Augusta Oakmont and Carnoustie. Now in 2007 they are doing it again. I wonder if the USGA and R&A planned this for Tiger, to see if he could match Hogan. Hell he matches Jack on a lot of his accomplishments. If Tiger Wins the 1st 3 of 07, he would win 5 in a ROW !!!! Dont Forget he is HAVING A BABY, and may miss the British Open. Now how crazie would it be if he wins the Masters and US Open, and misses the British Open. Well he gets another TIGER SLAM for sure. BUT 5 IN A ROW...That would be the best thing ever......
It would be this: 5 Majors in a Row 3 Majors in the same year just like Hogan in 1953 on the same courses 3 British Opens in a row
15 Total majors I think, now Jacks record is in MAJOR trouble...
If TIGER wins the MASTERS and US OPEN...... What he should do is buy a house in Carnoustie, (on the road next to 18) hire a doctor, bring his wife, have his Kid in the UK......If the child is born durning the British Open, or she goes in to labor....I dont know, I think he walks off the course to be honest....It is the Final Round. Tiger is -5, Jean Van DeVelde is in second at +7, Tiger leaves on hole 15, and Jean wins !!!!!
from being such a big fan of golf, to release all 3 in 07, it is pretty cool.... |
