After years of hibernation, I (re)discovered TW07 recently and, thanks to Gunpower61's instructions, I was able to install the game on my new Dell Inspiron and everything is running smoothly ever since (under Window10).
I do, however, encounter once in a while a couple of problems on some courses (as I am in the process of playing most of the 2006 courses... and posting comments, which is the least I can do (it's never too late !) to thank all of the designers who spent so much time & effort to keep us on our toes with their great creations).
I have read a lot of posts on some of the common problems encountered by players and solved most of mine :
1. Grey rectangles (instead of trees) ==> Set Atmospheric lighting to "OFF"
2. Game crash in the middle of loading ==> Set Animated Trees to "OFF"

However, I still have 3 unresolved issues :
1. Sometimes when the camera follows the ball up in the air, the horizon moves up & down !
It only happens on a couple of courses. Why is that and what can I do to solve this issue ?

2. On a recent course "Blue River Run - The North course", I can see reflections of the mountains at the bottom of the ravines which is unfortunate since that course is unbelievable. I don't understand why this happens because on another course The "Black Diamond "The Quarry Course", there are ravines too (from the 13th hole on) and everything is perfect !

3. Lastly, a couple of courses crashed back to the desktop (with a run time error) and I have not found any solution either (all my drivers are up to date and I followed instructions from TruBluMich who, years ago, gave a list of things to check).

If someone has solutions, let me know...

Thank you so much !

Hello Holein1

Not all TW06 courses are 100% compatible with TW07, some courses will crash, i don t think there is a solution for it.
Also the pano's in TW06 will not show up correct in TW07, because the pano's of TW06 have a different size, compared with the pano's of TW07.

Hi Gunpower61,

Thanks for your answers !

I guess I will have to live with it : so far, I have played about 28 courses from 2006 and only 2 crashed even before I could get my eyes on them ! So I guess I must have been lucky to have played some TW07-compatible courses...

It''s always fun to "discover" some courses from previous years which are not available in TW07 (fantasy or real such as Baltusrol, for example).

By the way, how far in time are courses compatible with TW07 ? Is it possible to find some in 2002, 2003, 2004, etc. ?

On the other hand, I guess this does not work the other way around : it is not possible to play some TW08 courses with TW07, right ?

And finally, one personal question : of all the TW editions that you have played, which year do you like the most : 2006, 2007, 2008 or else ?
The reason I am asking is that when I look at the number of courses created, I would think that TW2008 is the most popular, but is it really a big improvement over previous years ?

Cheers.

You will need some luck to get the 2002...2003...2004 courses working in TW07, a lot of the courses will crash.
But most of the TW08 courses will work in TW07, should be no problem, but you need to install the TW08 stock libraries in TW07, and they are not available for download on Coursedownloads.
But maybe i have a solution for that, i will send you a private message.

For your last question: TW08 is the best version in my opinion, not so much different if you compare with TW07 though.

I'm not sure that I ever played 07. I would say 08 is by far the best and I like the even numbered games going down from there.

Thanks for your answers Gunpower61 and Bobby Bolin : it is a pleasant surprise to read that I can play TW08 games with my TW07 version.
I thought it could not be possible since most softwares work the other way around (from newer version to previous ones).
At the same time, this could be bad news for me (LOL) : with so many courses in TW08, I could spend the rest of my life (and my afterlife...) playing these courses !!!
Then again, with what we are going through around the world these days, it might be the only way left for us to travel...
I guess, after playing most of the 2006 courses (which I figure might take me another 2 months), and once I get those 2008 librairies, I will try to play the real courses that I could not find previously.
And who knows ? Maybe one day, I might start designing some (no, just joking ! I would love too but I don't have the talent of all the great designers that I have seen so far).
By the way, out of curiosity : how long, on average, does it take to design a course from scratch (1 month, 2 months, more ?)
And finally, one last thought : being French, I have yet to find some French courses (except Serbannes) but I have not looked at all the courses since 2002...
Any suggestions ?

Thank you again.

Cheers.

In response to the "how long" question: Give this thread a look- http://coursedownloads.com/forum/posts.asp?post=11024

I'm trying to use it as a tutorial/look into how I go about designing courses. Everyone has their own method, but it's a start.

Also, here's Le Golf Nationale for 08:

Thank you so much Quietly : since I thought I could not play any TW08 courses with my TW07, I did not bother to look at all the courses available.
Glad to see that there are at least a couple of French courses that I will be able to play someday... out of curiosity.

Cheers !

Hi Bobby Bolin,

Thanks for the link to the French course ! Hopefully, I will be able to load the game one of these days.
In the meantime, I took a quick look at your day-to-day progress in designing a new course : very impressive, from all the research you did to the step by step approach that you are using.
Can't wait to test your course when I will have TW08 working...
Keep up the good work and best of luck !

HI Bobby Bolin,

As I just finished installing TW08 librairies in my TW07 game yesterday, I am slowly starting to download some courses so that I can see if there are any major differences between them.

So far, I have played Augusta and Cypress Point and I must say that the TW08 version looks better : details are sharper, buildings nicer, and the panoramas unbelievable. Up to now, I have not had any glitch with the horizon going up & down when the camera follows the ball.

This being said, I do have some questions for you (and other players) :

1. In an earlier post, you wrote "I would say 08 is by far the best and I like the even numbered games going down from there". What do you mean by "even numbered games" ?

2. By quickly browsing the 2008 courses, I stumbled upon a whole series of courses designed by CGX. Out of curiosity, I downloaded their Augusta version to compare it with the one from Ken McHale and it really looks good too. What do you think of their other courses ?

3. As I "fear", I now have to decide which course versions I should play (2006, 2007, 2008 ?).
My goal is to keep only 1 version of certains courses but how can I check it out ? Is there a way to search for existing courses by names for different years (without having to check every single year), so that I only download the latest version or a lone version (for example Cypress Point existed in 2005 but not in 2006 and 2007) ?

Thanks for your answers.

Hiya Holein1,

CGX courses are very good courses ( mostly only playable from the PRO tees ), created by a group of excellent designers.
I would go for the TW08 courses, a lot of great designers and great courses, and almost 2000 courses to play.
Not really an easy way to find the same courses in TW06...TW07....TW08, best way is to sort on name, but you will have to compare TW06...TW07...TW08

A French guy and me are like the only people who still play Tiger Woods 07.

I revamped the entire game you can download my TEXMOD app were you have tons of tour players, new equipment, custom clothes and just run the game from TEXMOD. Try not to change the clothes or equipment. If you do just exit out of the player and switch to another player and go back to your player and see the changes. Sometimes when you load a course the game will load a TEXMOD texture and screw up the lighting. If this happens save the game, exit out and restart and the texture that is wrecking the lighting is removed.

On my newer courses redid the game textures using TEXMOD and they look great.

As far as courses, the 08 courses will work in 07. The 06 stuff an before uses a different height for the pano so the pano will not show up. Nor will the CLS folder work in 07 from any other game. If you want to play 08 courses with a course life system and galleries download one of my courses and copy the CLS in to the installed 08 course.
