I have a removable drive system on my computer, which allowed me to run both Windows XP Pro 64 as well as Windows7 Pro 64 on the same machine. I was running a GTX 560 card and TW08 ran perfectly with it on my XP platform.I recently upgraded to a GTX 1060 6gb card because I was experiencing noteable lag in some newer apps on my Win.7 drive. I reinstalled TW08 on Win.7 but can't get the game to launch. I have compatibility message problem in regards to directX and not enough memory. Gunpower directed me some posts in this forum suggesting several fixes to try. Trying 3 of the suggestions did not solve the directX error message problem. I am definitely open to any suggestions. Funny thing is, I installed Links2K3 on this Win.7 drive with my 1060 card and it works perfectly. The Links game is 16 years old, go figure. |

Sounds more like a fault you would get on Win 10 ,{ Gun will know more about that } I have Win 7 Pro and the GTX 1060 6gb card all is ok, all I can suggest is that you ask Joe Summer. The card btw is better for more modern higher end games and does not do much for TW 2008 |

Yes it is bit strange, i thought the error message ( DirectX not enough memory) only appeared on win8 and win10. Not sure what else you can try, but i will try to find something. |

You are probably right about the directX error message only appearing in win8 & win10. I did originally install Win7 Pro 64bit on one of my drives. I assumed that the windows7 version is what I was running. The windows updater must have upgraded the version to 8.1 with win10 browser while I was having a brain lapse. lol. System Information tells me that I am indeed running version 8.1. Anyway, trying the three methods listed in this forum for the directX error message fix do not work for me for some reason. Because I upgraded my original GTX 560 card to a GTX 1060 6gb card, when I insert my XP Pro 64bit drive into my interchangeable drive slot the XP platform loads but without a video card driver because my new 1060 card does not support the XP platform. Is it possible that there is a workaround for the driver problem. In other words, can a driver be installed while I am running on the XP platform that is compatible with XP without screwing things up when I reinsert the 8.1 platform with the latest driver for the installed 1060 card which has no issues and runs perfectly. The only app with problems in 8.1 is of course TW08 which will not launch. |

Hiya Jurgie, when you tried the 3 methods, and you still receive the direct x memory error ( after you restarted your PC ) then it looks it is not working. Maybe the only option is to try some older drivers for the GTX 1060 card, not sure it will help and maybe you already did. I found about 20 older drivers for the GTX 1060 card on win8.1, the oldest driver is from March 2017, maybe worth to try the oldest driver. This is what i searched for:
Product type: GeForce Product series: Ge Force 10 series Product: GeForce GTX 1060 Operating system: Win8.1 64bit
Here is the link for advanced nvidia driver search:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx
Note: When you installed an old driver, then you probably still will have to do one of the 3 methods. And you will also have to run TW08 in compatibility mode on Win8.1
See link below, it is for Win10 but same for Win8.1:
http://www.coursedownloads.com/forum/posts.asp?post=10630&forum=11
About your second question, not sure but i don t think it is possibble to install a driver for the GTX 1060 card when you are on windows XP

? Or is it that XP OS does not support the directx that the card needs, I have that card and run on directx 11, [Edit ] Read all this article , not just the top https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/109627-how-to-deploy-directx-11-to-windows-xp-pc-s |

Method 2 using dg voodoo seems like it works well for most people who applied it. The latest version of this app seems to be 2.54, is that correct? Here are a couple of questions. When extracting the voodoo app there are two folders 3Dfx & MS. Within the 3Dfx folder is an additional folder Napalm. Inside the Napalm folder is Glide 3x.dll which already exists in the 3Dfx folder. When copying these files into the TW08 bin folder do you ignore the Glide 3x.dll file located in the Napalm folder since that file already exists in the 3Dfx folder? Or do you replace the existing file 3x.dll located in the 3Dfx folder with the one located in the Napalm folder? Going into the Voodoo program and clicking the DirectX tab, in my case, the Disable and passthru to real directX box is already unchecked. In the VRAM window 527 MB is listed. In that drop down box 16,32,64,128,256,512,and 1024 MB''''s are listed. When typing in the value of 520000 KB as is suggested. the Apply tab at the bottom becomes disabled prohibiting you from applying that value. Any Suggestions? |

Additional note: was able to activate the Apply tab by checking and then unchecking the Disable and passthru to real Direct X box. I again typed in the VRAM window the suggested value of 520000 KB and clicked on Apply. I exited the Voodoo program and reentered to find that my typed in value had disappeared and in the VRAM window it again displayed the value of 527 MB. Any ideas? |

Hiya Jurgie, i think 520000 kb should be 512000 kb ( I don t think 520000 kb is a valid value ) And 512000 kb = 512 mb So when you see the dropbox try to choose 512 mb ( or other value from the dropbox ) |

Thanks for the value correction and after resetting and then closing Voodoo and reentering, the value I set 512 GB still appears in the VRAM window. So it apparently is set to that value. Unfortunately the DirectX error message still appears when going into the compatibility program. |

Hello Jurgie
assuming you are still on Windows 10
Run (right-click run as administrator) TW08_Check.bat of the zip file, to check if the correct DDraw wrapper dll is present in your game folder. The problem is that some virus scanners False Flag the DDraw.dll as suspicious and block or remove it.
The working wrapper dll is included in the uploaded zip file.
