Does anyone know the rules for using grid lines on the green to determine your putting aim? I remember some of it. For every grid mark, you aim one left or right depending on the break. Thus if the break is left to right, and there are 5 grid breaks, you would left click 5 times. If the green fell 4 inches, you would add one more left click. I can't remember if you added 2 clicks if the drop was 7 inches or it required an even 4 inches. Neither can I remember what is done if the hole is 8 inches higher than where the ball is sitting. I think you reduced the click by 1 for each 4 inch rise.

I don`t think that applies to any green, you can have greens with what they call a double break on the putt line , meaning the putt can break left to right then come back the other way.

It works on any green no matter whether it breaks right and then left. The only question is how much to add or subtract depending on the rise or fall. I figured out yesterday, for every inch rise subtract one grid break from your total. (Of course you still have to get your weight right.)

As a matter of fact, this cheat works so well that I usually putt without the grid lines to increase the difficulty level.

I usually use the grid lines when playing the bot golfers for money. Those computer golfers sink 50-60 foot puts 80% of the time which is way above what the pros make on those putts.

I agree that it makes it much more easy to put on the greens, because you are turning it into a mathematical equation if you are using the grid line cheat. It takes a lot of the realism out of the game as far as I am concerned. But I understand if you want to be competitive with the bot players that are out there.
I for one didn't think that there would be as big a difference as there is when turning off the grid lines. It has been huge! Can't help you on the math of the grid lines as I have never tried to figure that in-depth before. Just know that it makes it much easier.

You say that using grid lines is a method of cheating when putting. Don't forget, the pros have a distance chart book that has a topographical map with contour lines of all greens they are putting on. I never knew this before. Are they cheating?

not really a "cheat", no more so than the various camera keys, player assistance if/when they want them

the grid lines are coded into the game to make it easier for novice, intermediate, advanced level players

not available at Expert level

turn them off if you like, the 'G' key does it or change it in the options menu

and the grid lines and any 'calculations' aren't infallible - speed of green, weight of stroke, incline - will all effect the final result
